The House Oversight Committee hearing was full of drama on Wednesday as lawmakers grilled former Twitter executives about the suppression on the platform in particular regarding the story of the Hunter Biden laptop.
As we reported, the grilling of Yoel Roth produced some fireworks. Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) lit up the Twitter executives, proving contact with the Biden team in the suppression of tweets. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) ranted that the House would dare take the time to look into the suppression of the “half-fake laptop” and had other 12-year-old girl moments. Another Democrat even tried to claim that the laptop was a “conspiracy” theory showing we have a serious misinformation problem in Congress. While Democrats rant on about misinformation on social media, Democrats were pushing all kinds of falsehoods at the hearing, as they tried to downplay the censorship.
One more example of that was the big falsehood that Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) pushed during the hearing as he sought to say how such censorship was not important. Raskin called the effort to look into the censorship of a Biden scandal a “trivial pursuit.”
"Instead of letting this trivial pursuit go my colleagues have tried to whip up a faux scandal about this two-day lapse in their ability to spread Hunter Biden propaganda on a private media platform. Silly does not even begin to capture this obsession." @RepRaskin #TwitterHearing pic.twitter.com/UWaSV4HJM4

2) Raskin: The majority has called a hearing to revisit a two year old story about a private editorial decision by Twitter not to allow links to a single New York Post article made for a two day period that had no discernable influence on anyone or anything.

Raskin claimed the censorship for a “two-day period” had no discernable influence on anyone or anything.
But the NY Post’s Miranda Devine nailed Raskin, noting that the suppression of the story, and the NY Post’s account being locked, wasn’t just for two days — that they were locked out of their account for two weeks. She also noted the critical period in which this was all happening — right before the 2020 election.
Dems and Twitter execs keep saying Twitter’s censorship of the @nypost only lasted 24 hours. That’s false. They kept the @nypost account locked for over two weeks, until just before the 2020 election.

As we reported, it was even slightly more than two weeks, stretching from when it went dark on October 14 to October 30.
It also wasn’t just about the NY Post — as we reported, Twitter was locking all kinds of accounts that dared to share the URL, including accounts like that of Kayleigh McEnany, President Donald Trump’s press secretary. The effort to shut down the story was scary and unprecedented.
Moreover, while it’s hard to know a poll taken in November after the election indicated had they known more about the Biden foreign connections, it could have had a significant impact on the election and how some people voted. A poll taken in August 2022, indicated that a massive number of Americans — 79 percent — thought President Donald Trump would have won, had Americans known the truth about the laptop,
Raskin’s position is shameful that he not only dismisses it but pushes falsehoods to try to downplay how unprecedented this truly was and the impact it may have had. Even now, he’s still calling the true story “propaganda” while he pushes something that isn’t true.
