We Have a Serious Misinformation Problem in Congress When It Comes to Hunter's Laptop

We’ve been covering some of the wild goings on, as Twitter executives were being grilled during the House hearing, talking about the suppression of information on the platform, including COVID and the Hunter Biden laptop.

The questioning of the former head of Twitter Trust and Safety Yoel Roth got chaotic, as he was put on the hot seat. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) also went off in a wild rant about the House investigating the suppression of the laptop, which she call a “half fake laptop story.”

But AOC wasn’t the only one suffering from and pushing some serious misinformation.

How over the edge and in la-la land are Democrats? Here’s Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) claiming the laptop was all a “conspiracy theory.”

“Why is this committee devoting a day-long hearing to a political conspiracy theory that was planted in the media by Rudy Giuliani to support Donald Trump?” Stansbury said.

Yes, let’s just ignore all the evidence on the laptop of pictures and videos of Hunter, and the fact that the laptop has been verified by multiple media outlets at this point. If it’s a conspiracy theory, why is the FBI looking into it? Even Hunter’s own lawyers are now making claims about the data being his “private data.”

So, no, we’re long since past confirmation that it’s real. Not only wasn’t it a “conspiracy” to help President Donald Trump, the suppression of it interfered in the election to the benefit of Joe Biden.

She has a problem looking at this for one day, after all the lies about Russia collusion for years?

We’re here, Rep. Stansbury, to look at all the suppression that has occurred on Twitter like this, and the weaponization of the government to help the folks on your side of the aisle. We’re here because Congress and the FBI, knowing it’s real, have been looking into the influence peddling and foreign connections that the laptop has shown.

But she wasn’t the only one venturing into fantasyland. There was also this guy, Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), who smeared the computer repairman, calling him a “leaker” who copied the files. He doesn’t even appear to know the facts, that John Paul Mac Isaac turned over the laptop, that was abandoned at his shop, to the FBI in the interests of his country.

Mac Isaac never said that the laptop he turned over to the FBI or Giuliani had “fake data.” He was concerned that people might impugn the real things by claiming fake stuff. But, if you listened to Moskowitz, you might think Mac Isaac was impugning what he turned over.

Moskowitz wraps up, asking where the drive is, as though people just made it up and the FBI–who has the original–must be lying about it.

But the funniest thing about that is that Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) got the hard drive entered into the Congressional record — had he cared enough about the subject, he would know that, and not spread misinformation.

There’s a serious problem with misinformation in Congress. They’re so interested in trying to suppress “misinformation” on Twitter, maybe House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) should first check their own house first.
