Two Democrats who supported ‘police reform’ over the past year-and-a-half were carjacked — one in Philadelphia and the other in the Chicago area.

From Daily Mail:

Democratic Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, 62, was robbed at gun point in Philadelphia’s FDR Park on Wednesday afternoon, 16 hours after Illinois State Senator Kimberly Lightford, 53, and her husband, Eric McKennie, were also carjacked on Tuesday night in a suburb 20 minutes outside of Chicago. Both women supported police reform policies last year following the Black Lives Matter movement, with both co-sponsoring a bill in their respective offices to allow mental health specialists to be dispatched as first responders instead of police officers.

Lightford, the Illinois Black Caucus chairwoman, had also previously supported cutting police budgets in the state, with Chicago proposing to slash $59 million from their police department’s budget while violent crimes soar in the Windy City.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incidents. The situation called for police responders in the events — not “mental health specialists” — to deal with carjackers.

Scanlon said two black men took her keys, her Acura MDX, purse, wallet, and phone. But police later found the car and arrested the five people in it.

Democrat Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said his thoughts were with Scanlon.

“Everyone deserves to feel safe in our city, and sadly that hasn’t always been the case this year. It’s disheartening and infuriating that criminals feel emboldened to commit such a reckless crime in the middle of the day in what should be a place of peace — one of our city’s parks.”

But the criminals have been emboldened by the actions of Democrats. There’s been a rise in crime in many Democratic cities across the country since the movement to “defund the police” began  — and since the police budgets started getting cut. On top of that has been the failure to hold criminals to account by reducing prosecutions and bail reform, another move by those on the left.

Democrats haven’t seemed to care about the adverse effects that their policies in this regard have had.

Kenney eliminated $14 million from the Philly police budget and cut a $19 million funding increase, on top of the city council’s decision to cut $33 million of funding for the fiscal year 2021. Soros-backed Philadelphia radical district attorney Larry Krasner denied that there was a “crisis of lawlessness.” Yet, in his city, murders are the highest since 2007, at 521 murders so far for the year, a 13 percent increase from the prior year. Carjackings have increased 80 percent and robberies have jumped 27 percent.

Krasner’s response to all this? Dramatically reduce prosecutions. And you wonder why they now feel so emboldened to just walk up to a congresswoman in broad daylight and carjack her? In Chicago, where they moved to slash millions from the police budget, with the support of Lightfort, the Chicago murder rate is at a 25-year high, with 767 homicides so far this year, and a 32 percent rise in carjackings.

Democrats have hobbled the ability of the police to respond to crime and unfortunately, now everyone is suffering the consequences, including Democrats, even the Democrats who encouraged slashing the police budget.
