Is This That 'Additional Information' That Finally Got Chris Cuomo the Boot?

CNN indicated in a statement that they had fired anchor Chris Cuomo when, in the process of their review, “additional information” came to light.

“Despite the termination, we will investigate as appropriate,” CNN said.

So what’s the “additional information” about which that they are talking? Brian Stelter claimed he didn’t know what it was when he spoke about the firing yesterday on Jim Acosta’s show and acted like they just discovered the ethical problems with Cuomo’s actions. I don’t believe for a second that Stelter doesn’t know what the additional information is.

The problem with CNN’s statement is that there are so many things that the “additional information” could be because there were so many things that were done wrong in this matter and should have gotten Cuomo terminated.

We noted how there had been a report of Chris Cuomo involving his CNN staff in the effort to dig up dirt on Andrew Cuomo’s accusers. If that’s true, he should have been canned long ago and CNN is going to be dragged further into the Andrew Cuomo investigations.

But it turns out there’s still more.

Chris Cuomo is now being accused of sexual misconduct by a former co-worker. That person’s lawyer contacted CNN on Wednesday to notify them about the allegation.

The woman who leveled the unknown accusations against Chris Cuomo, 51, was a former “junior colleague” at another news network, according to Debra Katz, the accuser’s lawyer, the paper said. The allegation was reportedly not connected to the cascade of accusations that led Andrew Cuomo to resign from office in the face of impeachment four months ago. [….]

“Based on the report we received regarding Chris’s conduct with his brother’s defense, we had cause to terminate,” CNN told The Times. “When new allegations came to us this week, we took them seriously, and saw no reason to delay taking immediate action.”

Katz said her client came forward because of Chris Cuomo’s statements on-air about sexual harassment allegations, “I have always cared very deeply about these issues, and profoundly so. I just wanted to tell you that.” So basically he got burnt because of his effort to spin how much he “cared.”

This isn’t the first allegation against Chris Cuomo. Shelley Ross, who was a producer who worked with him at ABC News, claimed in September that he had touched her inappropriately at a party in 2005, grabbing her buttocks. The kicker? She even had an email from him, basically acknowledging and apologizing for the behavior and suggesting that he could be arrested for it.

Adding all that up, CNN finally got the message that they could no longer hold off the stories about Cuomo and decided the time had come to cut their losses. Two sexual harassment allegations, the staff involved, and all the ethical issues, and it looks like it was too much even for them to try to sweep under the rug anymore. But they should have dumped him long ago and they already showed that they had no credibility when they let him use their network to promote and defend his brother in the middle of the nursing home scandal which left thousands dead. Now they need to come clean on what the staff may have done in this case regarding Andrew Cuomo’s accusers. They can’t just cut Chris loose and hope that no one will ask about that anymore.
