Texas Tribune Makes Pretty Egregious 'Mistake' on Number of Children Hospitalized With COVID

It seems whenever there is a “mistake” when it comes to Wuhan coronavirus “facts,” that the mistake always seems to work to feed the COVID fear porn.

For example, just over the past day or so, we saw the CDC having to basically acknowledge that the Florida new COVID case numbers that they had put out for last Sunday were inaccurate. It’s still not clear why, but of course, it jacked up the number making it almost twice what it really was. That gave Democrats ammo to then attack Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. Then we saw that the CDC claim that the new Delta variant was as contagious as chickenpox was exposed as false. Once again, the media spread the false claim, frightening people even more.

Now there’s another mistake, this one from the Texas Tribune.

The Tribune claimed today that there was a surge of children being treated with COVID-19 in the hospitals. The story said over 5,800 children had been hospitalized during a seven-day period in August, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Now, anyone looking at that should have thought that number of kids suddenly being hospitalized over a seven-day period — when kids are actually at lower risk — doesn’t make sense.

But folks like Jennifer Rubin don’t think logically. It’s all because of those horrible “death cult” Republicans in Texas. This allowed Democrats/media to jack up the anger against people in Texas just like the anger was jacked up against DeSantis in Florida.

Of course, as the Tribune later had to admit, that number in a week was just flat-out false. They added a correction to their story that was a pretty significant correction — that that 5800 number was over the whole time of the pandemic, not in one week.

“An earlier version of this story overstated the number of children who have been hospitalized in Texas recently with COVID-19. The story said over 5,800 children had been hospitalized during a seven-day period in August, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That number correctly referred to children hospitalized with COVID-19 since the pandemic began. In actuality, 783 children were admitted to Texas hospitals with COVID-19 between July 1 and Aug. 9 of this year.”

But the lie went out and the outrage was pumped against Texas Republican politicians. Jen Rubin’s false tweet is still up and none of these folks who spread the lie care about correcting themselves. Who cares if it was obviously false when it serves your political purposes?
