CNN’s Brian Stelter is all about using anonymous sources in his “stories.”
But in an ironic twist, the “anonymous sources” technique is coming back to bite him, through his newscaster wife.
Anonymous sources have been speaking to New York Magazine and finking out bullying that is allegedly going on at NY1 where anchor Jamie Stelter works. The piece is “Inside the Petty, Vindictive, Career-Ruining Infighting at NY1”
Those anonymous colleagues are pointing to her as a part of the problem at NY1.
“It appears Brian isn’t the only bully in the Stelter family,’ TV news blogger Scott Jones wrote after reading the piece.
“Colleagues say she and [business anchor Annika] Pergament began to behave like ‘high-school bullies,’ openly gossiping about co-workers — sometimes with their mics still on,” Moscatello wrote after speaking with 51 former and current NY1 staffers.
The lengthy, inside look at NY1 uses mostly anonymous sources to paint the local network as a terrible place to work with anchor Pat Kiernan at the center of the majority of its issues. Stelter and Pergament are Kiernan’s co-anchors and the “trio are represented by the same agent and are friends off-camera,” according to Moscatello. [….]
“A lot of people don’t like working with Jamie,” an anonymous staffer told Moscatello while another claimed Stelter would openly complain about everything from how stylists did her hair to what staffers wore.
“People would avoid her,” a third anonymous source told Moscatello.
Stelter was also accused of making “snide comments” about then–fellow traffic reporter Alyse Zwick and allegedly having “ostracized” a Black female colleague.
Ten of the whistleblowers were particularly unhappy with the way that the three other anchors would disparage black weather anchor Stacy Ann Gooden. Gooden quit when HR didn’t solve the problem, according to the report.
What surprised me about the report was frankly that he had a wife because I didn’t think he had a personality that anyone could tolerate. But then it’s easy to believe that she might be snide and disparaging of colleagues, given how snide and disparaging he is. It’s also incredibly ironic that she’s getting busted by anonymous sources, given the way he does things. Although it looks like NY Mag has a whole lot more behind their story with 51 interviews than Brian ever has behind any of his “stories.” Of course, that’s likely one reason why his ratings have been crashing into the basement since January. Because most people know his show isn’t even close to reality or the truth.
Donald Trump, Jr didn’t mince words when commenting on the story about Stelter’s wife.
