We reported on the brave actions of the former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employee, Edward Coristine, in defending a woman on August 3 during an alleged carjacking in Washington, D.C. Coristine pushed the woman into the car for safety. He was then allegedly assaulted and suffered injuries.
The alleged attack on Coristine, who is also known by his nickname "Big Balls," factored into President Donald Trump's decision to take over law enforcement in D.C.

While these two teens were charged, there were reportedly about 10 people in the group that Coristine faced.
But the latest action taken by the judge in the case raised some eyebrows on X.
A 15-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy, who were charged with unarmed carjacking days after the attack, have been given lighter restrictions.
Since their arrest, the suspects had been held at D.C.’s Youth Services Center (YSC), where juveniles are placed in secure detention by court order. According to reports, Judge Kendra D. Briggs, who was nominated by then-President Joe Biden in 2021, ruled that one of the teens would be sent to a youth shelter while the other would be granted home arrest.
While the teens are being released from the YSC, they are still subject to curfews, weekly drug tests and electronic monitoring, NBC4 Washington reported.
The judge said to the two teens, “School and home, that’s it." Briggs told them, “The fact that this court is stepping you down from Youth Services Center is a serious step,” adding that they aren’t allowed any contact with each other.
Briggs said she was sending the boy home instead of to the youth house, because the house is a long distance from his school, and traveling between the two would be difficult.“I don’t want to put hardship on your family,” she said. The boy will have spot drug tests at his probation officer’s discretion and must stay out of D.C. except to appear in court, she added.
Some on X were not happy with that decision. This was a sample:

In the meantime, President Donald Trump has federalized D.C. law enforcement. Trump has deployed federal agents from multiple agencies, as well as the National Guard. He has already achieved positive results showing reductions in violent crime, as the D.C. Police Union confirmed. One big number that has gone down is the carjacking number that the Police Union said had been reduced by 83 percent. Robbery was down by 46 percent. Violent crime is also 22 percent down overall.
