Speculation that the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic could have resulted from a possible lab leak has been treated by Democrats and media as a “conspiracy theory” for the past year, but now it’s finally getting the attention it should have gotten a year ago, with Dr. Anthony Fauci conceding that even he isn’t convinced that it developed naturally and there needs to be a further investigation. On top of that, there’s new reporting that three scientists working at the Wuhan Institute of Virology became so sick with an illness producing COVID-19 symptoms in November 2019 that they had to seek hospital care, lending further credence to the theory.
Given the havoc that the pandemic has wreaked, you would think that getting a straight answer from China and holding them accountable would be number one on the hit parade. But it would seem, not so much, given White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki’s response to questions today from Fox’s Peter Doocy.
WH’s Psaki on growing evidence Covid escaped from a Chinese lab: We want a WHO-driven investigation, not a U.S-led probe:

Psaki claimed:
“We have repeatedly called for the W.H.O. to support an expert-driven evaluation of the pandemic’s origins that is free from interference or politicization.”
Is she kidding? The WHO who told us, falsely, on Jan. 14, 2020, that the virus wasn’t transmissible between humans? The WHO who was against the China travel ban President Trump enacted in January 2020. The organization that has been at the beck and call of China? That organization? Fortunately, President Donald Trump wasn’t relying upon the WHO to protect America or look out for America’s interests when he cut travel, like the Biden team apparently is now.

This answer from Psaki is just flat-out nonsensical. Yes, you can have a WHO investigation. But that shouldn’t prevent you from having a concurrent American investigation. Is she really saying there isn’t such an investigation happening? Because that’s surely what it sounds like she’s saying. Why would you ever just rely upon such an investigation anyway without doing our own, even if the WHO hadn’t already proved that they can’t be trusted? The first obligation Biden should have should be an American investigation. But it doesn’t seem like he even cares about that.
It wasn’t only Doocy grilling Psaki on the topic. She was also questioned by Reuters’ Jeff Mason and CBS’ Wejia Jiang. That’s good news, that perhaps finally some others and not just Doocy may be doing their jobs and pushing for answers.
After @PDoocy went back-and-forth with Jen Psaki over the @WSJ story about Wuhan Institute of Virology employees, Reuters's @jeffmason1 and CBS's @Weijia Jiang both picked up on it and continued hammering away (and much to Psaki's dismay).
Left, right, center — this matters.
