Video Shows Killing of DC Uber Eats Driver During Carjacking, CNN Refers to It as an 'Accident'

A pretty horrifying video went viral Saturday afternoon of the murder of an Uber Eats driver on Tuesday.

Two black teen-aged girls, reportedly 13 and 15, allegedly tried to carjack 66-year-old Pakistani immigrant, Mohammad Anwar as he was doing an Uber Eats delivery near Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. They allegedly assaulted him by tasering him. As they tried to pull away with the car, he was hanging partially out of the driver’s side door and they hit into poles with sickening thuds, flipping the car during the incident. Anwar was later declared dead at the hospital.

Video of much of the incident was posted on social media, so consider this a warning for the graphic nature of it.

Members of the National Guard actually helped the alleged killers out of the car, and one of them complained her phone is still in the car. She was more concerned about her phone than about Mr. Anwar, who appeared to be lying dead on the sidewalk. No one appeared to be paying much attention to him on the ground. They seemed more concerned about a possible explosion from the car. The man who filmed the incident tried to explain to the Guard that it was the girls who had stolen the car.

The girls were arrested and charged with felony murder. According to the police, the suspects were a 13-year-old from Southeast D.C. and a 15-year-old from Fort Washington, Maryland.

A GoFundMe set up for Mohammad Anwar described him as a “hard-working Pakistani immigrant who came to the United States to create a better life for him and his family,” and as the financial provider for his family. He “was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who always provided a smile when you needed one. He leaves behind a family, near and far, who cherish, love, and miss him dearly.” Three kids and four grandkids. The fund has already raised almost twice the goal, from people donating who were shocked by the story and concerned about his family.

It’s hard to fathom not only trying to steal a car, but killing a man in the process. With such little regard for human life, to take such a man from his family for such an evil reason. Then, to be more concerned about one’s phone; there are some serious issues there.

Some were also disturbed by CNN’s description of the incident, feeling that it was downplaying the incident, by referring to it as an “accident” and reporting Anwar ended up “fatally injured.”

Um, no, they may not have intended to flip the car, but they allegedly were in the process of assaulting him when they did so. That’s felony murder, CNN, not just an “accident.”

But is this story going to get memory-holed, because it doesn’t fit the “white supremacist” narrative that the media wants to sell?
