Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany is talking about why she thinks Biden is sort of hiding from the press and not doing a solo press conference.
She spoke to Stuart Varney on Fox Business saying she wasn’t surprised that Biden has gone this long without doing one, given how he behaved during the campaign with the “basement strategy.” “He went something like 50 days and he only took questions twice. And when he did, they were hand-picked questions.”
Biden has already set some kind of a record as to longest without a press conference since he came in the last 100 years, as my colleague Sister Toldjah wrote. And it’s just getting longer all the time. Finally, Jen Psaki claimed that he was going to do one this month but that he was delayed by the pandemic.
But every MSM reporters weren’t buying the logic on that one, as CBS’s Kathryn Watson indicated.
Psaki is doing daily press conferences, so clearly the administration sees them as COVID safe enough.
There is no good reason not to have a press conference more than one month into Biden's presidency.

But McEnany believes he’s not doing it because his staff is afraid to put him out there, worrying about what might happen, that they’re trying to protect him from the inevitable problems that would result.
In her first interview on Fox Business since leaving the White House, @kayleighmcenany weighs in on why President Biden hasn't held a news conference yet. She thinks his staffers don't have faith that he can handle one without messing up! #VarneyCo pic.twitter.com/Pg1yXA3N8N

“I think his staff does not have faith that he can stand at the podium and have a press conference the way President Trump did many times,” she said. [….]
“I don’t think this is President Biden saying, ‘I don’t want to do this,’” she said. “I think it’s those around him recognizing when he does speak, it doesn’t always turn out so well, like calling Republicans ‘Neanderthals,’ as he did recently in the Oval Office.”
Varney agreed saying that they didn’t want to see him subjected to the “rough and tumble” of a real press conference. We’ve already seen how confused even just not seeing the teleprompter can make him and how his own people cut his feed when he might have to be asked questions by friendly Democrats. Biden is just agreeing to whatever it is they’re telling him to do, as we saw in his comment to Nancy Pelosi.
But she said that ultimately he was going to be forced into it, “The pressure is mounting when you have even left-wing outlets calling him out for this.”
They’ve now indicated he’s going to do it by the end of the month, putting it off for yet another three weeks as they figure out how to pull it off or hope that people forget about it. Bet they’ll try to do something more virtual so that they try to control the environment and perhaps have the ability to thereby help him.
