NY AG Drops Damning Report on Andrew Cuomo, Showing Nursing Deaths May Be 50% Higher Than He Claimed

We’ve been talking since last year about how New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has been lying and covering up the nursing home death scandal, minimizing it greatly.

We pointed to the great work at the Daily Caller and the New York Post that called out the cover-up early on.

Now people in authority in New York have finally caught up to the facts.

The Attorney General Letitia James (a rabid Democrat who ran on the explicit promise of trying to get President Donald Trump) just dropped a very damning report on Cuomo.

Cuomo’s administration had been refusing to turn over nursing home death information that people have been asking for and trying to get since last year.

Now James is saying the actual count of deaths might be as much as 50% higher than Cuomo and the state were claiming.

The official nursing home count right now is 8,711 but this news could push it to more than 13,000 based on the report’s survey of 62 nursing homes that found there was an undercount by an average of 56 percent.

In May of last year, the Daily Caller broke the story that once Cuomo started getting backlash over the nursing home order that suddenly there was a change in how they were counting deaths in the state, that now if you were taken from the nursing home to the hospital, they no longer counted it as a “nursing home death” thus skewing the numbers connected to the nursing homes lower.

While James’s report puts some blame on nursing homes for how they handled things, it nails Cuomo, saying that at least 4000 of those deaths followed Cuomo’s March 25 order requiring nursing homes to take in virus patients into the homes’ incredibly vulnerable populations, putting everyone “at increased risk of harm.” The nursing homes wouldn’t have had to deal with the situation if Cuomo hadn’t forced it upon them.

According to the Daily Caller, that deaths occurred in 323 facilities that “apparently had no reported COVID-19 infections before receiving admissions or re-admissions of hospital residents who had been diagnosed with COVID-19.” Which pretty much tells you how deadly significant that order was. “[T]hese admissions may have contributed to increased risk of nursing home resident infection, and subsequent fatalities,” the report says.

For example, one home in August had 11 reported deaths likely from the virus. But in fact, the James report found that 40 were actually linked to the home, 27 in the home and 13 at various hospitals.

Meanwhile, as we reported, Cuomo has been trying to blame President Donald Trump and railing against “incompetence in government.” “Incompetent government kills people. More people died than needed to die in COVID. That’s the truth,” Cuomo declared. Indeed, and we’re looking straight at him.

Not thinking that’s coming anytime soon.
