Today seems to be the day for me to catch up on all the Chicago stories.
I wrote about Chicago BLM members trying to employ their tactics on Saturday against the police, it didn’t end well, with some of them locked up. Then there was also the story about the rioter that won the Darwin Award for live-streaming while he was in the middle of allegedly trying to bash in an ATM last weekend.
But I really wanted you to know about the story of little two year old Owen Buell. Owen and his family have been staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Chago while he has been receiving treatment for Stage 4 neuroblastoma at nearby Lurie Children’s Hospital.
He was supposed to go home for his birthday in Joliet with his grandparents. “We were going to have cake and ice cream and do some presents at home with his siblings and his grandma,” Owen’s mother, Valerie Mitchell, explained.
But the rioting and looting last Sunday into Monday made it impossible. The rioters even attacked the Ronald McDonald House, smashing out the front door and the windows, as we reported at the time.
From WBBM:
“We got a phone call from the nurse saying that none of the nurses could make it in for safety concerns and they didn’t want any families in the middle of that trying to walk into Lurie’s,” Mitchell said.
The Ronald McDonald House was one of several locations hit early Monday morning.
“The whole door was shattered and it looked like a bullet hole, so I started freaking out thinking about how unsafe that was. You shouldn’t feel that way when your kid needs medical care. You shouldn’t be afraid to walk a few blocks down the street,” she said.
They couldn’t even safely get to the hospital a few blocks away and the nurses and staff couldn’t get there.
So little Owen had to stick around a little longer until it was safe to get his treatment and missed his party.
Owen Buell has stage 4 neuroblastoma and was supposed to celebrate his second birthday at home in Joliet. Instead, Monday morning’s looting downtown kept him from being discharged from Lurie Children’s Hospital. Hear his story today on @WBBMNewsradio pic.twitter.com/L3XZU7WqRR

The children staying at the center could hear the sirens and gun shots. Imagine how terrified they were.

According to the GoFundMe, the Chicago Police offered to make sure that Owen got safely to his appointment at the hospital.
Just so vile and despicable that this little boy and his family should have had to endure this on top of everything else they are going through. The BLM Chicago leader explicitly endorsed the looting actions that took place last weekend, claiming it was “reparations.” So what does she think about rioters terrorizing the families of little kids with cancer?
