Poor CBS News "journalist" Margaret Brennan, host of "Face the Nation." She never learns.
Brennan's history of attempting to fight a battle of wits with no ammunition against the likes of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and even former Secretary of Defense under President Barack Obama, Robert Gates, has been a disaster for the Trump-loathing hack.
On Sunday, Brennan tried to do battle with Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) — who's way too smart to mess with — over his most recent op-ed in The Wall Street Journal — "Send in the Troops, for Real" — claiming the op-ed's language was evocative of a 2020 New York Times op-ed that triggered a newsroom revolt.
Bad move, Margaret.
First, here's part of Cotton's op-ed:
When local police can’t restore order, the federal government has a duty to do so with a show of force.
Violent insurrectionists turned areas of Los Angeles into lawless hellscapes over the weekend, with anarchists setting fire to vehicles, throwing scooters and debris at police, and looting businesses—all while waving foreign flags.
Despite the rising chaos, Gov. Gavin Newsom, whose office likened the riots to a Philadelphia Eagles playoff victory celebration, and Mayor Karen Bass, who refuses to support federal law enforcement, haven’t taken sufficient action to restore law and order.
Meanwhile, incredibly, Democrats and the liberal media have again called this outbreak of violence “mostly peaceful protests,” while in the same breath blaming the riots, arson, and looting on President Trump for enforcing immigration law. The New York Times described “largely peaceful” riots with fireworks fired at police, cars set on fire, and more than 150 arrests.
The threat from the radical left is clear: Don’t enforce immigration laws. If you do, left-wing street militias will burn down cities, and Democratic politicians will back the rioters. The president is absolutely right to reject this threat, enforce immigration laws, and restore civil order.
So raise your hand if you think a single word of the above excerpt was incendiary or even close to unwarranted. (Zero hands raised.)
"At the risk of again sending liberals to their fainting couches," Cotton wrote, "it may indeed be time to send in the troops."
Brennan, of course, was beside herself — or should we say she pretended to be?
I... want to ask you about the enforcement to date. As you know, there has been outcry. We've seen protests across the country because of the enforcement policies. You wrote an op-ed supporting President Trump's decision to send in federalized National Guard troops and active-duty Marines to California. You referred to it as the threat from the radical left — an overwhelming show of force to end the riots — and talked about communities being terrorized. Given the amount of tension in the country right now, is that really the language to use?
As I said at the top, poor Margaret.
Cool as a cucumber, Cotton responded (emphasis, mine):
Yes, when you see left wing street militias who are throwing bricks and frozen water bottles at police officers and shooting them with fireworks, and unfortunately, you have mayors and governors in some places that won't allow police to maintain order, the next step is to call in the National Guard, and if the governor won't call on the National Guard, then the President has to federalize them.
We always hope that the local police are allowed to do their job and have sufficient numbers to do their job to maintain order and protect innocent life and property. But if they can't, or they're not allowed to, the National Guard has to be on scene to restore civil order.
Exactly. I mean, what's the alternative, Margaret? Lawlessness and anarchy?

Brennan continued:
LAPD says they were handling when things turned violent, yesterday, they fired rubber bullets, but they said they had it under control.
Au contraire, Cotton reminded Brennan:
The LA police chief said last weekend that his forces were overwhelmed, and they couldn't manage the situation.
Brennan ended the segment with: "Senator Cotton, thank you very much for your time today."
And that was that. Tom Cotton: 1, Margaret Brennan 0. Final score.
So yeah, poor Margaret Brennan.
Shilling for the left is hard enough. But hating on all things Trump and the Republican Party, 24x7, must indeed be exhausting. And when you're in way over your head, it must be embarrassing — unless your self-awareness meter pegs at zero, that is.
