Nope, not a Babylon Bee piece, despite the satirical vibe of the headline.
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, now a 2024 presidential candidate, says he’s willing to meet with “Jersey Shore” star Snooki, whose real name is Nicole Polizzi, and attempt to patch up their differences, which began with their awkward encounter in 2013 after taping separate segments for the “Today” show.
Page Six reported at the time:
Larger-than-life New Jersey Governor Chris Christie finally met his pint-sized nemesis, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi.
The two met during an awkward encounter on the newly reopened Seaside Heights boardwalk after taping separate segments for “Today.”
In the footage, a very uncomfortable Snooki – standing next to “Jersey Shore” castmates JWoww and Deena Cortese – asks Christie why he’s standing so close to her. Hilariously, Christie decides to lean in even closer.
Snooki told Christie, “I just wanted to meet you, and just, hope you start to like us.”
Christie responded, “Well, we’ll do our best.”
After the Jersey Icons parted away, Snooki told JWoow, “He just doesn’t like us.”
Christie has been extremely critical of the MTV reality show and its stars, and has reportedly called them “losers.”
“Getting told why we are bad for Jersey. Amazing,” Snooki tweeted … with a picture of her and JWoww talking to Christie on the Seaside Heights boardwalk.
I seldom write about TMZ-style crap, but given that Christie’s thrown his hat in the 2024 presidential campaign ring, I made an exception, and “news” is news. Anyway, Christie recently said about Snooki:
I am willing to break bread with anybody, but I don’t think she’s interested in breaking bread with me because I didn’t like her show.
“Didn’t like her show” was an understatement. Christie had not only previously slammed “Jersey Shore,” he blocked the show from receiving a New Jersey state tax credit. Christie said at the time:
I am duty-bound to ensure that the taxpayers are not footing a $420,000 bill for a project which does nothing more than perpetuate misconceptions about the state and its citizens.
I’m proud to say I’ve watched zero nanoseconds of “Jersey Shore,” so I have no idea about perpetuated misconceptions, one way or another, but I do know that silliness like this isn’t usually newsworthy, which is, perhaps oxymoronically, exactly why I decided to write about it.
Christie said he hasn’t spoken to Snooki, an upstate New Yorker who now lives in New Jersey permanently, since their tabloid-worthy dust-up.
On a serious note, I can’t imagine why Christie is running. His 2016 presidential campaign went down in flames, only to see the former candidate booted from Donald Trump’s transition team following his horrible handling of the Bridgegate scandal.
Anyway, I couldn’t reach Snooki for comment. Just kidding— I didn’t even try.
