Buck-Passing Biden Kicks Top Immigration Official to the Curb as Border Crisis Worsens

In this episode of The Misadventures of the Buck-Passer in Chief…

Joe Biden did it with skyrocketing gas prices, so why not do it with his intentionally created border crisis, as well, which began the nanosecond he took office and continues to worsen? “He” is Joe Biden and “it” is blaming everyone and everything else for crises he alone created. In this case, a cowardly act indeed.

As reported by Fox News on Friday afternoon, Chris Magnus, the commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection is being forced out of his job as part of a larger change in top personnel at the Department of Homeland Security, according to a government source. The cowardly part?

Embattled DHS head Alejandro Mayorkas, who should at least be impeached by Congress and removed from office for failing to protect our homeland, remains in his job — arrogantly and defiantly so.

Here’s more, via Fox News:

Magnus is resisting leaving the position, after being told by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to resign or get fired, according to the source. It comes after a record year of migrants seeking to enter the U.S. along the Mexican border.

Magnus has only been on the job for about a year, and sources say he has clashed with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials over border enforcement policy. Some of Magnus’ duties have been taken over by his deputies.

DHS officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

So how bad is the continuing border crisis? Let’s revisit several recent RedState articles and find out.

August 9: Biden Just Killed a Trump-Era Immigration Rule That Will Only Make the Border Crisis Worse

Biden has finally removed the “Remain In Mexico” policy that kept asylum seekers waiting south of our border while the U.S. processed their application for U.S. protection.

The Biden administration attempted to kill the policy on day one but was blocked by U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, who has now lifted his injunction.

This effectively gives people the ability to come into the nation and then get lost. They need not wait for a ruling over the validity of their asylum claim. They’re now in the United States and can remain.

September 19: Meanwhile, Illegal Alien Encounters Hit 2 Million in One Year for First Time as Biden Border Crisis Rages

Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) announced Monday that there were 199,976 migrant encounters in July, taking the total for this fiscal year to 1.946 million encounters.

But CBP sources tell Fox that since then, the number has now surpassed the two million mark, a milestone previously unhit. 2021, the previous record-setting year, saw more than 1.7 million encounters.

Clearly, the reality is dire and it continues to worsen.

October 6: Cruz, Graham Put DHS Hack Mayorkas on Notice With Blistering ‘Grounds for Impeachment’ Letter

As the Biden Border Crisis™ continues, with more than 8,000 illegal alien encounters daily, and untold numbers of “getaways” — along with massive shipments of deadly fentanyl — Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Tuesday fired off a scalding letter to the dangerously inept DHS head, warning they have “grounds for impeachment” if he fails to act swiftly in correcting his “gross dereliction of duty.” The letter said, in part:

“Your failure to faithfully enforce this nation’s immigration laws and willful blindness to the very real humanitarian crisis at our southern border amounts to a gross dereliction of duty and a violation of your oath of office.”

And Mayorkas?

As with Biden, Mayorkas continues to lie himself silly about border “security.” As we reported in July, the DHS head told this whopper:

Look, the border is secure. We are working to make the border more secure. That has been a historic challenge.

That same month, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott had a “slightly” different take, saying in a press release:

While President Biden refuses to do his job and enforce the immigration laws enacted by Congress, the State of Texas is once again stepping up and taking unprecedented action to protect Americans and secure our southern border.

The cartels have become emboldened and enriched by President Biden’s open border policies, smuggling in record numbers of people, weapons, and deadly drugs like fentanyl.

Yet in September, Mayorkas delusionally declared that Biden was “doing so much” to “enforce the law at the border.”

Well, we are doing so much … You know what our policy is? Our policy is to enforce the law. And that is indeed what we are doing. Individuals who arrive at our border who do not have a legal basis to remain in the United States are being removed.

And those that do have a valid basis under the laws that Congress has passed are able to stay, as the law provides. That is our policy, to enforce immigration law.

Lies and half lies, Mr. Secretary. Of course you’re not enforcing the law and doing what’s best to protect the American people from a literal — yes, literal — invasion, including untold shipments of deadly fentanyl.

Second, the administration continues to bastardize “valid basis under the law.” Migrants who willingly present themselves at the border are told what to say before they arrive, whether seeking asylum or refugee status. Take a quick look at migrants in any border surge and ask yourself if any of them appear to have suffered from any of the below requirements:

To obtain either refugee status or asylum, a person who has fled their home needs to demonstrate that they have a well-founded fear of persecution on the basis of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group.

The biggest difference between refugees and asylum seekers is where and how this determination is made, not what they have endured: refugees and asylum seekers share the experience of having to escape, often without warning, and embark on a difficult and dangerous search for safe haven.

Please, Mr. Secretary.

When processed, migrants are given a date to appear before an immigration court hearing, which can be 12-18 months in the future. Claims vary as to what percentage of migrants actually show up. Then-Vice President Mike Pence claimed “90 percent of the people never show up for their hearing in the months ahead. … the overwhelming majority, plus-90 percent, don’t show up.” However, the Justice Department’s preferred metric showed at the time that 44 percent of migrants who were not in custody failed to show up for their court proceedings.

Pick either number or somewhere in between. Is that a “secure” border, Secretary Mayorkas? And what about the untold number of getaways? Is that protecting the American people from potential harm? Yet Mayorkas smugly sits in his office while underlings are thrown under the bus — all for the purpose of creating a charade that the Biden administration is working to secure the border.

Good job, Joe.
