'Frivolous': Florida Democrats Double Down With Lawsuit on Alligator Alcatraz; DeSantis Rep Responds

Earlier on Friday, we learned more details on just who is being housed inside "Alligator Alcatraz," the newly-constructed South Florida facility for illegal aliens and as my colleague Sister Toldjah revealed in her piece, it's not looking good for Dems hoping to sell their narrative of law enforcement officials and President Trump's administration making random, haphazard sweeps of innocent bystanders--including American citizens--in cities across the country and holding them for no good reason.

Toldjah wrote:

But as the Usual Suspects continue to hyperventilate over supposed "conditions" at the Florida Everglades-situated encampment, Florida is releasing more information on just who their critics are defending.

As one might expect, it's pretty close to a worst-of-the-worst scenario:

Lazaro Rodriguez Santana, a Cuban national, was convicted in Texas of sexual assault and failure to register as a sex offender. Honduran national Jose Fortin was convicted of second-degree murder in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Furthermore, authorities say Oscar "Satan" Sanchez of Honduras is an MS-13 gang member who faced convictions for resisting arrest, conspiracy to commit murder and assault in New York, as well as RICO offenses.

Guatemalan national Luis Donald Corado was convicted of burglary, forced entry, and voyeurism in Miami. Specifically, Corado’s case involved him looking into a woman’s window, according to the Florida official’s office.

[...]

Eddy Lopez Jemot of Cuba was convicted of murder, arson, and assault. He was arrested for "cutting the throat of an elderly woman" in Key Largo, Florida, and then lit her residence on fire with hopes of hiding the evidence..

This news will likely hit hard some people I wrote about recently --  a group of five Democrat state lawmakers including representatives from the Florida House and Senate who tried to barge their way into Alligator Alcatraz on July 3, with their further activities including what looked like a not exactly impromptu presser.

This is what happened on Thursday, in the wake of the president's sojourn to the Sunshine state -- simply more liberal Democrats looking for photo-ops to keep themselves on the good side of the radicals of their party:

A group of five Democratic state lawmakers in Florida said they were denied entry to “Alligator Alcatraz,” a new migrant detention facility, on Thursday due to “safety reasons,“ days after President Trump toured the facility alongside Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).

The lawmakers who tried to tour the facility, which opened on Tuesday, included state Democratic Reps. Anna Eskamani, Angie Nixon, and Michele Rayner, along with two state Sens. Shevrin Jones and Carlos Guillermo Smith.

Now, they are doubling down on Friday by filing a lawsuit against GOP Governor Ron DeSantis and his administration over the fact that they weren't able to enter the facility.

In a joint statement on the legal action aimed at DeSantis and the state's director of emergency management, Kevin Guthrie, the Dems stated that Florida statutes allow them "oversight authority" of state facilities "at their pleasure" and without an appointment made with the executive branch -- which is what they tried to do on July 3.

The statement continued:

“The DeSantis Administration’s refusal to let us in wasn’t some bureaucratic misstep. It was a deliberate obstruction meant to hide what’s really happening behind those gates. There is no statute that permits the Governor to overrule the Legislature’s oversight authority. This lawsuit is about defending the rule of law, protecting vulnerable people inside that facility, and stopping the normalization of executive overreach.”

“People resort to juvenile name-calling when they have no legal basis to defend their actions," said State Rep. Ashley Gantt (D-FL), who is representing the other state lawmakers in the suit. "We stand on firm legal ground: the Governor and his agency heads violated Florida law and the state Constitution by blocking legislators from performing our lawful oversight duties.”

And how did DeSantis' office respond? By calling out the suit as “frivolous.” And this is the most telling part of what the Dems are doing here. There's an invitation from Florida to inspect Alligator Alcatraz - which the Democrats already refused:

...[S]tate officials have invited Florida legislators and members of Congress to visit the site this Saturday. The plaintiffs said they expect the tour to be a “tightly controlled walkthrough” that doesn’t meet their standard of “real oversight.”

In a statement, a spokesperson for DeSantis, Molly Best, added, “The State is looking forward to quickly dispensing with this dumb lawsuit."

We'll keep you posted on where this goes from here.
