White House Incredibly Insists Biden's Russia Sanctions 'Strategy' Has 'Worked'

As those of us who have paid even a modicum amount of attention to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki is well aware, she is loath to ever admit her boss has done anything wrong, said anything wrong, or no doubt thought anything wrong. Moreover, she does so with an air of smugness that is irritating as hell.

As I suggested on Thursday in an article titled Biden’s Meaningless Pledge Prior to Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine Becomes a Cruel Joke, Russia’s full-scale attack against neighboring Ukraine was a foregone conclusion, even as Team Biden continued to beclown itself with the ridiculous assertion that it was not.

Moreover, as I covered in the above piece, Biden himself all but sealed Ukraine’s fate with a carefully-crafted hollow pledge “so detached from geopolitical reality” that it “shook the confidence of allies” and “stunned some in the diplomatic world.”

Our story begins with Psaki predictably and desperately tripping all over her tapdancing self on Wednesday, as reported by my colleague Nick Arama, as she hilariously tried to square the circle following Germany’s announcement this week that it would halt certification of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. As Nick reported in May, Biden waived sanctions on the Russian-owned company in charge of the pipeline. Needless to say, Psaki’s performance was pure Psaki.

Now for the stand-up comedy.

As the brutal Russian assault continues, with Ukrainian casualties in the hundreds and civilians bearing the brunt of the attack, as reported by Newsweek, Psaki was asked about Team Biden’s overall Russia sanctions “strategy,” dating back to the beginning of Putin’s latest round of threats and subsequent invasion of Ukraine.

Pick your favorite stand-up comic; he or she ain’t got nothin’ on Psaki and her response to a reporter’s question about why the administration steadfastly refused to issue unilateral sanctions against Russia prior to the invasion of Ukraine (emphasis, mine):

We made the assessment — others can have different assessments — that this would be a way to achieve the outcome that we’ve now achieved.

Others can have different assessments [but] there’s no proof or evidence that their approach would have worked.

Ours has worked.

You guys wanna take this one or should I?

What outcome? Wanted by whom? By what measure(s) was that desired outcome achieved? How, specifically, has “ours” worked — when and where “others” did not?

The bullcrap is breathtaking in its dishonest stench.

Even worse — or more hilarious, depending on the depth of sickness of one’s sense of humor — Jen Psaki is not the Lone Ranger in the Biden Clown Car’s cadre of stand-up comics and their respective ridiculousness on Russia sanctions relative to Ukraine.

One need look no further than Biden’s feckless Secretary of State Antony Blinken for an example.

As I reported in late January, even after Russia had warned the Ukraine “countdown is underway,” Blinken explained to CNN — AKA: The Most Trusted Name in News™— head wizard Jake Tapper where Team Biden then stood on sanctions, inexplicably suggesting they would have undermined the West’s “leverage.”

When it comes to sanctions, the purpose of those sanctions is to deter Russian aggression. So if they’re triggered now, you lose the deterrent effect.

I asked then, and I’ll sure as hell ask, now. HUH?

With 100,000 Russian troops and equipment then massed on the border with Ukraine, Blinken further ‘splained to Jake:

All of the things that we’re doing, including building up in a united way with Europe, massive consequences for Russia, is designed to factor into President [Vladimir] Putin’s calculus and to deter and dissuade them from taking aggressive action, even as we pursue diplomacy at the same time.

Welp, that aged well, huh?

The bottom line.

Whether or not tough preemptive sanctions would have caused Russian strongman Vladimir Putin to rethink an invasion of Ukraine and the consequences, let alone call off such an invasion, will never be known. What we do know is that — yet again — the disaster that is the Biden administration has failed spectacularly, despite the protestations of stand-up comic Jen Psaki to the contrary.

From one Biden crisis to the next, we have seen results for more than a year. Those results speak for themselves, from the Biden Border Crisis to the Biden Energy Crisis to the Biden Oil Crisis to the Biden Afghanistan Debacle to the Biden Supply Chain Crisis to the Bidenomics and Bidenflation.

Now, for whatever the team’s role, we add the Biden Ukraine Crisis.
