CBS Mocked for Blaming Rise of Taliban on 'Climate Change'

CBS beclowning itself? Surely I jest, right? Yeah, no. The flagship of “mainstream” media news went there. The network of Edward R. Murrow on Friday claimed climate change has helped “strengthen” the Taliban, which has now brutally taken over Afghanistan and trapped thousands of Americans behind enemy lines.

Let the mockery begin. Oh, the mockery.

But first, let’s go straight to the horse’s ass mouth for the details.

Rural Afghanistan has been rocked by climate change. The past three decades have brought floods and drought that have destroyed crops and left people hungry. And the Taliban — likely without knowing climate change was the cause — has taken advantage of that pain.

While agriculture is a source of income for more than 60% of Afghans, more than 80% of conflicts in the country are linked to natural resources, according to a joint study by the World Food Programme, the United Nations Environment Program and Afghanistan’s National Environmental Protection Agency.

In 2019, Afghanistan ranked sixth in the world for countries most impacted by climate change, according to the Germanwatch Global Climate Risk Index.

Al Gore, Leo DiCaprio, John Kerry & co. seen furiously nodding in approval.

Kamal Alam, a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s South Asia Center, told CBS that the Taliban has swooped in and filled a vacuum created by the Afghan government, which Alam asserts has not paid enough attention to Afghan citizens.

“If you’ve lost your crop and land or the Afghan government hasn’t paid enough attention [to you] then, of course, the Taliban can come and exploit it.”

Nadim Farajalla, director of the climate change and environment program at the American University of Beirut, further explained (rationalized) the climate change theory (nonsense) to CBS.

“[Farmers] fall into choices. That’s when they become prey to people who would tell them, ‘Look, the government is screwing you over and this land should be productive. They’re not helping you. Come and join us; let’s topple this government.'”

“With poverty and war and everything else,” said Alam, “climate change is the last thing on anyone’s mind.”

As if to offer further “proof” that evil climate change has indeed given rise to the evil Taliban, CBS then claimed Afghanistan isn’t the only country that has fallen victim to brutal Islamist extremists — compliments of, as the Democrats are fond of saying, “the existential threat of our time.”

Climate change has fueled terrorism and civil unrest elsewhere in the world.

Boko Haram gripped water-scarce central Africa in 2017 as they gained footholds along the Lake Chad Basin.

ISIS has taken advantage of agrarian communities suffering from extreme drought in Iraq and Syria.

[A]rid or semi-arid areas in impoverished countries with low levels of education and poor infrastructure are all ripe for extremism.

OK — that’s enough of that.

On to the Mockery

Needless to say, CBS was immediately skewered with ridicule and mockery for pushing climate change as the boogeyman responsible for the horror that is now Afghanistan — particularly for Afghan women and girls as young as ten years old — and the even worse horror to come, when the TV cameras and Western journalists are gone and the world once again stops paying attention.

Critics were quick to mock CBS on social media, with Forbes contributor Patrick Gleason saying, “I can’t believe CBS beat The Babylon Bee to this.”

The Babylon Bee is the smartest and most humorous satire site in the known universe, of course.

Speaking of The Bee, here are a few “Bee stings” about Biden’s disastrous debacle, beginning with referencing “bad dude” Corn Pop’s pal’s bizarre statement in June about Second Amendment advocates, “If you wanted to take on the government, you need F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons.”

And a “Where’s Waldo?” shot at the forever-useless Kamala Harris…

The hypocrisy of the Biden administration…

And embattled Joe, finally throwing in the towel because of all the deserved crap he’s getting…

And last but not least, Fox host Tucker Carlson destroyed CBS and its ridiculous claim on Friday’s episode of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” with a more-than-able assist from Marc Morano, founder of Climate Depot, a non-profit that exposes “climate change” and “global warming” misinformation. Here’s how that went:

Tucker:

“So if you’re wondering why Afghanistan is falling apart and the Taliban now run it, you may think, ‘well, it’s Joe Biden’s fault.’ Oh, no!’ says CBS news! It’s not Joe Biden’s fault — it’s your fault. Because of climate change. […] How dumb are they, at CBS? Pretty dumb, it turns out.

“Marc Morano’s not dumb; he’s from Climate Depot; he’s the author of the book, Green Fraud — Why the Green New Deal Is Even Worse Than You Think; he joins us now.”

“Is this the most far-fetched connection between climate change and breaking news that you’ve ever seen?” Tucker asked Morano, to which the anti-climate-hoax advocate responded:

“Well, it’s close. Two years back, we had a bunch of academics say ISIS was created due to global warming. Obama blamed the Syrian civil war on climate change. We had, recently, Kamala Harris blame illegal immigration on climate change — there’s a lot of candidates for that title, Tucker.”

Tucker then noted that “the common thread between everything you just said is all things that the people in charge of our country helped cause — all those disasters are in part their fault — but they blame climate change. It seems like a great bling deflector.”

Morano promptly buried the CBS claim with facts.

“It absolutely is. In the case of Afghanistan, they [CBS] claim in the article that the last three decades of bad weather have damaged crops, and harmed the Afghan people, and made them ripe for the picking of the Taliban, when the UN data shows that crop yields — food crops — have doubled in the last three decades.

“Not only that, but Al Jazeera is reporting this week that the real power behind the Taliban was opium trade; opium runners and making money off that. So who do you believe, CBS, or Al Jazeera on this? I think Al Jazeera is much more credible on this. But this is a long history.”

Then Morano exposed the really stoopid [sic].

“In fact, The Washington Post this week said the climate crisis would not have happened if Jimmy Carter would have won a second term — they’re now going back in history and blaming Ronald Reagan for the alleged ‘climate crisis.’

“There’s no end to which the media and academia will not defend progressives and Democrats in power, using climate.”

And there it is! I knew it was the Gipper’s fault!

National Review Online contributor Ellen Carmichael summed it up perfectly.

Yep, there it was, for sure. And there it always will be.

As we’ve clearly seen with COVID for more than a year, the Left’s selective reliance on science is driven, exclusively, by whether or not science supports their various narratives.

When it does not? They make stuff up. Or lie.
