Instead of focusing on the mounting issues facing Californians, including assisting those whose homes burned in January, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) was in New York on Stephen Colbert's late-night show. Per usual, Newsom made unfounded claims, including one that got Outkick Sports founder Clay Travis' attention.
Newsom told Colbert's audience that he "fears" there won't be an election in 2028:
"I fear that we will not have an election in 2028. I mean that in the core of my soul, unless we wake up to the code red, what's happening in this country, and we wake up soberly to how serious this moment is."

Travis called out Newsom and said he will bet $10 million that there will be an election in 2028 and for Newsom to put his money — or his donors' money — where his mouth is:
If you truly fear this, Gavin, why not take my $10 million dollar bet? Straight up, you say no election in 2028, I say there will be one. Your donors can fund your side of the wager. I’ll even take you out to dinner at French Laundry when my $10 million clears. Step up, bud. https://t.co/Bt8lKUF9sN

Newsom's empty gaslighting and trying to put fear in Americans about future elections seems to be the Democrats' message heading into the 2028 presidential election, because that's all they've got. Lies upon lies. They believe that is what will help them win the general election. They will say and do anything to win in 2028, but the voters are smarter than that, and they will see through them, and as long as the RNC trots out a viable candidate, Democrats will be handed another loss. However, the Democrats will not go out without a fight, and if Newsom is their main messenger, it's a gift that keeps on giving for the GOP.

Tank Full? CA Gas Prices May Hit A Devastating $10 - Thanks, Gavin Newsom!
While Newsom's focus is anywhere except the state he supposedly governs, California has the highest unemployment rate, the highest gas prices and gas taxes, the highest state income tax, while being ranked 50th in opportunity. But spouting off talking points is easier and requires no work, so that's why he's more focused on scaring the public than doing his job.
Newsom has had some sort of public official position since 1996. In 2008, he released his plan on how he was going to end homelessness as mayor of San Francisco in 10 years. It's 2025,15 years later, and homelessness has only worsened in the city of San Francisco.

From 2019 to 2024, under Newsom's tenure as Governor, California experienced a 24 percent increase in homelessness. The state remains in a budget deficit, but not to worry, taxpayers will bear the brunt of it by paying a mileage tax. Yes, more taxes to save the state from incompetent career politicians and their reckless spending policies.
The State of California is pushing a per-mile driving tax—charging you for every mile you drive. This regressive scheme would punish middle- and working-class families the most, especially those who commute long distances to work.

If the DNC wants to lose another general election, do the GOP a favor and trot out Newsom as the nominee. Whether it's his political career or personal life, there is so much baggage that most Americans don't know about, and it will begin to be exposed during the primaries, but put on blast during the general election. There are far better candidates than Newsom, but as of right now, he is the favorite to become the nominee. Granted, most Democrats have been hush about 2028, and the betting markets will consistently shift as the Democrat primary gets underway.
