Compunctious RBG? Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Sort of Apologizes for Criticizing Trump

After facing a withering storm of bipartisan condemnation, including from the New York Times and even one of the other liberal members of the Supreme Court, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has finally come around to realizing what the rest of the world knew immediately: that her attacks on Donald Trump were a really stupid thing to do:

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said Thursday she regrets remarks she made earlier this week to CNN and other news outlets criticizing presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

“On reflection, my recent remarks in response to press inquiries were ill-advised and I regret making them,” Ginsburg said in a statement. “Judges should avoid commenting on a candidate for public office. In the future I will be more circumspect.”

Apart from presenting serious problems with respect to judicial ethics and partiality, Ginsburg’s attack on Trump provided Trump with a political windfall, giving him a liberal target to attack at a moment when (UNEXPECTEDLY) his campaign was facing yet another PR crisis. More, with even liberals piling on, it was an avenue of attack that was completely justified.

Her attacks lowered the prestige of the court and elevated Trump in the process, in addition to all the other reasons that they were a terrible idea. So, way to go, Notorious RBG. Smart.

No word yet about whether she regrets saying she is glad Scalia is dead.
