We can afford to lose a lot and still recover during this unprecedented crisis. Jobs, money, schooling, our very way of life.
One thing we absolutely cannot afford to lose at this time is our hottest actors. Heck, we’re already holding our breath for America’s Dad Next Door Tom Hanks and his actress/producer wife Rita. Now comes word that the world’s favorite NOT EVER GOING TO BE JAMES BOND actor Idris Elba has tested positive for coronavirus/COVID19.
Not today, Satan!
It is in times like this that we must all band together and support each other through the tragedy of our favorite celebrities facing down life-threatening illness.
Perhaps I am being a little facetious and sarcastic. We can’t forget our sense of humor these days. But as many complaints as we make about the current status of Hollywood, the truth is that more than ever we need our escapism that we find in entertainment. Our favorite stars like Hanks and Elba aren’t just pretty faces who entertain us. They are a connecting thread that adds a sense of safety and continuity. It’s why people feel so “close” to their favorite celebrities. We “see” them every day. They’re in our homes and on our screens. They feel like friends even though the relationships aren’t real. They play a huge part in our psychological comfort.
Elba says he has no symptoms but is self-isolated and following guidelines.
So in all seriousness, we at Redstate wish Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson and Idris Elba a very speedy and a full recovery. The world needs you!
