Rap superstar Nicki Minaj talked about the power of faith and "uniting humanity" in a very moving speech at the United Nations over the killing of Christians in Nigeria.

On Tuesday, the 42-year-old rapper, born Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, joined U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Waltz in New York to speak about the genocide happening in Nigeria, where thousands of Christians are being persecuted and slaughtered.

BREAKING. President Trump Issues Ultimatum to Nigeria: Stop the Slaughter of Christians or Else

"I would like to thank President Trump for prioritizing this issue and for his leadership on the global stage in calling for urgent action to defend Christians in Nigeria, to combat extremism, and to bring a stop to violence against those who simply want to exercise their natural right to freedom of religion or belief," Minaj said.

"I stand here as a proud New Yorker, with a deep sense of gratitude that we live in a country where we can freely and safely worship God, regardless of one's creed, background, or politics," she added. "No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion, like I recently stated on social media. And we don't have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other."

"We're beyond that, that's ridiculous…But today, faith is under attack in way too many places," Minaj continued. "In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes, and killed. Churches have been burned. Families have been torn apart. And entire communities live in fear, constantly, simply because of how they pray…and it demands urgent action. And I want to be clear; protecting Christians in Nigeria is not about taking sides or dividing people. It is about uniting humanity."

Minaj got an invite from Waltz after she credited President Donald Trump for his post shedding light about what was happening to Christians. Trump also issued an ultimatum to Nigeria's government about withdrawing foreign aid if it didn't do more to protect Christians, as my RedState colleague streiff reported.

The president wrote in his post:

If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, "guns-a-blazing," to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities. I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!

As you can expect, after the world-renowned rapper thanked Trump for speaking out, she immediately faced a backlash for her social media post, as my RedState colleague Becca Lower reported:

Nicki Minaj, one of the top-selling rap artists over the past decade and a devout Christ-follower, took to her X account early Saturday morning to thank President Trump for standing up and pledging to stop Christians from being persecuted and slaughtered in a genocide in Nigeria.

Here's what the singer wrote, in a post quoting President Trump's Friday message:

Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God.

No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don't have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other.

Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror & it's dangerous to pretend we don't notice.

Thank you to the President & his team for taking this seriously.

God bless every persecuted Christian.

Let's remember to lift them up in prayer.

As Minaj said, every person should have the right to worship without fear. Thank you, President Trump, for leading the way once again.
