Department of Defense Seeks Runaround of State Law to Enable Abortions

The United States military’s continued slow demolition in Democratic hands continues with the latest news that the Biden Administration is planning to blithely ignore the law by de facto making abortion available for any service member regardless of assignment location, all on the taxpayer’s dime.

From Townhall:

Following October 2022 memo from Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on “Ensuring Access to Reproductive Health Care,” the Department of Defense has released three official policies that “take a series of actions to ensure Service members and their families are able to access non-covered reproductive health care.”

These actions include policies to provide “administrative absence for non-covered reproductive health care” and “travel allowances for non-covered reproductive health care.” Essentially, the Biden administration is providing a taxpayer funded workaround to allow service members and their families to obtain non-covered abortions if they are stationed in a state where laws have been passed to protect the unborn.

While DoD still can’t use tax dollars to pay for the abortion procedures themselves (outside of existing allowances in the case of rape, incest, or pregnancies that threaten the life of the mother), the new policies mean taxpayers will be funding time off and travel to obtain abortions.

Nice circumventing of the law there regarding severe restrictions on federal funding for abortions.

It is inexplicable why Democrats are fiercely determined to do whatever is necessary to make abortion more readily accessible than supermarket checkstand candy. We live in an era where birth control is available to any woman at little or no cost. Condoms are not expensive. Why, then, the insistence on abortion as opposed to, say, preaching personal responsibility? On second thought, one look at Washington DC answers that question quite nicely.

The American military’s mission is to defend our country. Period. The military was not created as a willing platform for social engineering experiments by those determined to emasculate the United States. Indeed, those whose interests directly oppose our own (*coughchinacough*) do not see their military in such a dangerously silly manner.

The DoD efforts also highlight the ongoing struggle between the federal government and that pesky Constitution with its insistence that states’ rights and powers supersede the federal establishment. Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization returned abortion to its proper decision level, that being a state-determined matter. Different states go different ways. California is working on making abortion a tourism enticement. Oklahoma takes a far dimmer view. It is how the Founding Fathers designed things, although I doubt abortion weighed heavily on their minds while crafting the Constitution. The Tenth Amendment is not ambiguous:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Why this is so difficult to comprehend remains a mystery. Well, not really.

Beck once sang he had two turntables and a microphone. Obama boasted he had a pen and phone. Biden has an ice cream cone and apparently an insatiable bloodlust for murdered unborn children.
