As RedState reported, an active shooter situation unfolded in New York City on Monday in the early evening hours. A male suspect entered the building at 345 Park Avenue in Manhattan and opened fire, killing four people and injuring others. A New York City Police officer was reportedly shot in the back and had to be rushed to the hospital. The officer was identified as 36-year-old Didarul Islam, a four-year NYPD veteran. Islam succumbed to his wounds and died. He was married, and his wife is eight months pregnant with their third child. Islam also leaves behind two young boys.
New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch honored Officer Islam during a late Monday press conference regarding the mass-shooting incident.
He was doing the job that we asked him to do. He put himself in harm’s way. He made the ultimate sacrifice — shot in cold blood, wearing a uniform that stood for the promise that he made to this city.
He died as he lived: A Hero.

Several hours after the tragedy unraveled, the shooter was finally identified. Commissioner Tisch supplied the full timeline of the event thus far, cautioning that the incident was still being actively investigated.
The maniac gunman who killed at least four people at a Midtown office building on Monday evening was identified as a 27-year-old Las Vegas man recently employed as a casino security guard, according to law enforcement sources.
Shane Tamura was named by sources as the shooter who stormed 345 Park Avenue, a swanky 44-floor building and opened fire, killing one police officer and at least three civilians.
One person was wounded, officials said.

NYPD found Tamura on the 33rd floor of the building, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Palmetto State Armory AR-15 rifle he used to commit the murders was at his side. The New York Post reported, "Smears of blood were seen on the assault rifle Tamura used during his deadly rampage, according to a photo obtained by The Post."
Commissioner Tisch informed that officers from the NYPD's Special Operations Division were currently conducting a secondary sweep of the entire building at 345 Park Avenue. But she made it clear that the shooter acted alone and that there was no longer any active threat to the public.
Tisch also revealed:
The vehicle he exited is registered in Nevada to Mr. Tamura. Inside of that vehicle, officers found a rifle case with rounds, a loaded revolver, ammunition and magazines, a backpack, and medication prescribed to Mr. Tamura.
The vehicle was searched by our bomb squad and found to be clear of any explosives.
Tisch also said that, according to the Las Vegas law enforcement officials, Tamura has a documented mental health history.
The names of the other victims in the shooting are being withheld pending notification to their families. Here is NYPD Commissioner Tisch's full update on the tragic situation.
