The Great ‘Bloodbath’ Hoax and the Demise of Nonpartisan Media

Townhall Media

The “bloodbath” hoax is so much more than the usual perpetuation of false narratives that characterizes American media. It would be tempting to view this particular mass deception in the same way as the Fine People hoax, the Covington kids scandal, and the other trillions of examples of media malfeasance.

After nearly a decade of lying about former President Donald Trump, the movers and shakers in the once-vaunted Fourth Estate have clearly refused to learn their lesson. No matter how often their lies are exposed, they continue peddling false narratives.

Part of this is because they know that even when they are exposed as liars, most will still believe the lie. Another component is the media’s effort to push a political agenda. But at the center of this whole issue is the fact that objective, nonpartisan media is all but completely dead in America.

For those who haven’t heard about the story, Trump gave a speech in which he referenced the auto industry, saying that if he is not elected, there will be a “bloodbath” among automakers. However, the media and their Democrat allies cut out part of his remarks to make it appear as if he was threatening violence if he loses to President Joe Biden in November.

It’s as if every major media outlet in the country uses the same dishonest headline writer (and that writer is a DNC staffer). Outlet after outlet, site after site – they’re all going with the same narrative, namely that Trump predicted that there will be blood in the streets if he doesn’t win the presidential election this November.

While blood in the streets is the implication of their blaring headlines, they almost all neglect to mention the former president was talking about a “bloodbath” in the auto industry. He was saying that Biden’s disastrous overbearing push of EVs would decimate the sector should he inexplicably get elected to another term.

News outlets and anti-Trump influencers went with the lie, and even doubled down after Trump’s actual comments were revealed in context. It was a tremendous gift to Democrats, who pounced on the opportunity to use it against the former president.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) repeated the hoax during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” saying that Trump was “predicting a bloodbath.”

Not surprisingly, Biden’s campaign has also been leveraging the lie, even after it was shown to be deceptive.

Of course, that was the intent of the hoax, was it not? It was supposed to be something Democrats could use against Trump and his supporters. It is part of the legacy media’s effort to ensure their man gets another four years in the White House.

Obviously, this was never the proper role for the press in days past. Sure, it was impossible to remove all semblance of bias from journalism – but there was at least an attempt to be objective.

Those days are long gone, and they probably are not coming back anytime soon, if ever.

The fallout from this story is not just a temporary blip of partisan bickering. It is yet another sign that we are now in a new era in media.

The days of reporters and news outlets doing their best to ensure that the public is informed are long gone. Now, journalism is more about influencing rather than informing. As RedState’s Nick Arama said, “The folks saying it correctly were few in a sea of those who went with the fake narrative” about Trump’s “bloodbath” remarks.

Now, we are in an age in which media is either right-leaning or left-leaning, with outlets falling somewhere along the spectrum. Sure, there are still some outlets out there trying to deliver straight news. But, in general, most are coming from a particular political perspective.

Of course, this might not be a bad development. Yes, legacy media outlets still wear the façade of objectivity, but surveys showing that trust in media is in the toilet suggest that everyone knows what these outlets truly are.

Now that the nonpartisan mask is off, it will be up to American news consumers to do their due diligence to make sure they are getting the full story on the issues that are most important. They will have to dig deeper to ensure they are not being led astray. It’s a tall order. But with the advent of alternative media, people now have more choices when consuming news. It will be up to the people to stay properly informed.
