Joy Reid Sez: If You Don’t Support Open Borders, You’re a Racist

Falsely accusing people of racism never gets old for folks on the hard left – especially for MSNBC commentator Joy Reid, who gets paid big bucks to call people bigots for not being progressives.

In the latest episode of “Everyone Who Disagrees With Me Is a Racist,” Reid hit out at people who oppose open borders immigration policy during a conversation with Paola Ramos, a former advisor to Hillary Clinton. Reid was especially fixated on Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), who has been vocal in his criticism of the Biden administration for its failure to handle the border crisis.

“Well, people like Congressman Chip Roy saying that Texas should resist the Supreme Court’s ruling that now allows the Biden Border Patrol to remove razor wire barriers is a bit like ‘old southerners’ saying they will resist integrating black people into society sixty something years ago.”

Reid continued, arguing that the resistance to open borders “sounds like the old southerners who said that we will resist integration by any means necessary.”

Ramos replied, insisting that the Republican Party is “essentially telling local authorities to break the law” in their efforts to curb illegal immigration.

Regardless of what one believes about immigration policy, the notion of wanting more control over who is allowed to enter the country is not racist. It is about ensuring that the government is not letting potentially dangerous people into the country without vetting them first.

Moreover, what Reid was doing in this broadcast is a commonly-used tactic used by progressives. They downplay the atrocities that people in this country went through to score some cheap political points against their political opposition.

Wanting more controls over immigration and the activity at the southern border is nothing like treating Americans as second-class citizens and using the force of government to keep an entire race of people in subjugation.

There were very real people who endured horrific treatment at the hands of the government under slavery and Jim Crow. Pretending that imposing immigration policies – just as every other country does – is putting people through the same type of treatment that black folks went through is absurd and an insult to the memory of those who fought for equal rights.

Advocating for border security does not mean pushing for inhumane treatment of those seeking asylum. It is simply intended to make sure that those who enter the country plan to live their lives and contribute to the well-being of the country.

Of course, Reid already knows this, as do her contemporaries who make similar claims of racism. They don’t say these things because they actually have any evidence that opposing open borders is motivated by bigotry – they say it because they believe it helps them push their agenda. Instead of arguing the merit of open borders, they rely on besmirching those who do not agree with it.
