Sure, Let’s Impeach Merrick Garland Too

It looks like President Joe Biden is safe from impeachment for the time being. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has shelved impeachment articles filed by Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), indicating that he would rather wait until they build a stronger case against the president before launching an impeachment effort.

But it appears that McCarthy is willing to throw a bone to those who wish to see Biden impeached. He indicated that such an effort might be in the offing for Attorney General Merrick Garland, who has been accused of politicizing the Justice Department.

McCarthy recently suggested that an impeachment inquiry into Attorney General Merrick Garland could be launched if whistleblower allegations regarding the Department of Justice’s Hunter Biden probe are proven true. McCarthy retweeted allegations made by IRS Criminal Supervisory Special Agent Gary A. Shapley Jr., stating that if the claims are accurate, they would be a significant part of a larger impeachment inquiry into Garland’s supposed weaponization of the DOJ. The whistleblower’s allegations assert that the U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware, David Weiss, wanted to appoint a special counsel in the Hunter Biden investigation, which contradicts Garland’s denial of such a request.

Garland responded to the allegations by denying that Weiss had ever asked for a special counsel to be appointed in the matter. According to the attorney general, Weiss was granted complete authority to make decisions on his own, and there was no obstruction to bringing a prosecution.

McCarthy remains undeterred, so far. He emphasized the need for the facts to be revealed and called for Weiss to provide answers to the House Judiciary Committee. These allegations emerged following the Department of Justice’s recent plea deal with Hunter Biden, in which he pleaded guilty to tax-related offenses and agreed to enter a pretrial diversion program for a firearm offense, avoiding prison time.

As you might imagine, Democrats aren’t too happy about this. The White House criticized House Republicans for attempting to divert attention from their own economic agenda by considering an impeachment inquiry into the attorney general. White House spokesman for oversight and investigations, Ian Sams accused Speaker Kevin McCarthy and his Republican colleagues of lacking a positive agenda to help the American people:

“Speaker McCarthy and the extreme House Republicans are proving they have no positive agenda to actually help the American people on the issues most important to them and their families,” White House spokesman for oversight and investigations Ian Sams said in a statement first obtained by The Hill.

Sams argued that president and Cabinet officials are traversing the country this week to tout Biden’s economic agenda, all while Republicans are focused on pushing out partisan stunts.

“Perhaps Congressional Republicans are desperate to distract from their own plan to give even more tax cuts to the wealthy and big corporations and add more than $3 trillion to the deficit, but instead of pushing more partisan stunts intended only to get themselves attention on the far right, they should work with the President to actually put the middle class and working Americans first and expand the historic progress to lower costs, create jobs, boost U.S. manufacturing and small businesses, and make prescription drugs more affordable,” he said.

One of the key justifications for an impeachment inquiry into Garland revolves around the allegations of political bias. The IRS whistleblower’s claims regarding the handling of investigations into Hunter Biden have raised questions about potential favoritism or a lack of impartiality. There are several indications showing that people in the Justice Department worked to shield the Biden family – especially Hunter – from scrutiny about its questionable dealings.

Impeachment proceedings would provide an opportunity to thoroughly investigate whether Garland allowed personal or political considerations to influence DOJ decisions. Upholding the principle of equal justice under the law requires a thorough examination of these allegations.

Another critical concern driving the call for impeachment is the alleged weaponization of the DOJ under Merrick Garland’s leadership. It is essential to determine whether Garland has misused his authority for political purposes or to target individuals based on their affiliations.

There are already indications that the FBI has been used to target pro-life activists while largely ignoring vandalism and terrorism perpetrated by pro-abortion thugs. It was also revealed that at least some in the Bureau got the bright idea to target Catholics for alleged extremism.

Impeachment proceedings would enable a comprehensive review of Garland’s handling of these matters. Did he know agents working under his purview were engaging in this conduct? If so, what did he do about it? If not, why the hell does he not know what’s going on in his agency?

Impeachment proceedings would provide an avenue for holding Attorney General Garland accountable for his actions or ineptitude. The House Judiciary Committee’s inquiry could shed light on Garland’s decision-making process, his interactions with key personnel, and any potential conflicts of interest.

Transparency is crucial – especially for federal agencies granted the authority to violate our rights when they deem it necessary. If Garland has indeed acted inappropriately or compromised the integrity of the DOJ, impeachment would serve as a necessary mechanism to address these concerns and restore faith in the Department.

Of course, Democrats will cry about political motivation and blah blah blah. But who cares what they think?

These allegations of political bias and the weaponization of the Department of Justice warrant a thorough investigation. Impeachment proceedings would allow for an examination of the DOJ’s conduct, ensuring accountability and transparency. Besides, we need a warm-up for Biden’s impeachment – this would be absolutely perfect. Let’s make it happen, Mr. McCarthy.
