Parents Will Make the Difference in the Fight for America’s Children

When tuning in to the myriad political battles America is undergoing, it is easy to hyperfocus on what progressives are doing to push their agenda. Indeed, at times we treat them like they are an all-powerful steamroller and we are helpless to stop them from realizing their Marxist Utopia.

I’ve been guilty of this myself.

But lately, I’ve seen several examples showing that the giant does bleed. These people are not unstoppable. Over the past couple of years, we have seen the hard left take significant losses in the culture and in the government. There are a variety of factors contributing to these defeats, but I’d say there are none more significant than parents.

Progressives have irked many with their focus on cancel culture and pushing for policies designed to strip us of our liberties while expanding the power of government. Conservatives have been pushing back. But the hard left made one serious mistake:

They messed with our kids.

This misstep has made all the difference. What ensued was an outpouring of outrage all across the country after parents found that not only were school districts providing subpar education but also trying to indoctrinate children into progressive ideas on race, sexuality, and gender identity. When this happened, there was a collective “Oh hell no!” moment in which people swarmed school board meetings to make their anger known. But it hasn’t stopped there.

Recently, parents leaped into action when they found out the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District in Southern California was planning to vote on a program during a Monday meeting that would have Planned Parenthood open a facility at John Glenn High School. You read that right. These people wanted to put the nation’s largest abortion provider on a high school campus.

But parents weren’t having it. Even in Southern California, people have limits – especially in Orange County, where the school district is located.

When residents found out what the district was planning, they balked. They showed up on Monday to protest the plan. As a result, the district announced that it was no longer going to consider the proposal at the meeting. “The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Board of Education will postpone discussion of Board Agenda Item #12a regarding the Planned Parenthood clinic at John Glenn High School,” the district said in a written statement.

But that did not stop the protests. People showed up anyway to demonstrate against the district for even daring to suggest such a plan.

This was part of a larger 2019 initiative to place Planned Parenthood centers in high schools all over the Golden State. This is currently happening in five schools. “The on-campus Wellbeing Centers aim to create a safe space in each school where students can receive the education and health services they need to lead healthy lives,” according to a press release from the organization, which also stated these centers would “offer services including health and wellness education services, sexual health services, peer leadership opportunities, parent education and support, and more.”

This story further illustrates why parents must be aware of what their school districts are up to. The past few years have shown that these people are not our friends and will not hesitate to push a far-leftist agenda because they know most are not paying attention.

But this story also highlights what happens when people mobilize. When parents band together to push back against the left’s efforts in schools, they can put a stop to their schemes. Sure, it is not easy – no battle worth fighting is, right? But progressives can and should be stopped at every turn. This is especially true when it comes to our education system. If these people are going to be defeated, parents will have to play a vital role in the battle. Otherwise, these people might just get what they want eventually.
