When even failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton can see what’s wrong with the Democratic Party, you know the left is in deep trouble. Earlier this month, Clinton took aim at the far-left progressive wing of the party, suggesting it will be the reason why the Democrats will likely lose big in the upcoming midterm elections.

During an interview on MSNBC, Clinton argued that the Democratic Party should consider how it could win elections outside of deep-blue districts, where they know they will succeed. “I think that it is a time for some careful thinking about what wins elections, and not just in deep-blue districts where a Democrat and a liberal Democrat, or so-called progressive Democrat, is going to win,” she said. “I understand why people want to argue for their priorities. That’s what they believe they were elected to do.”

Clinton continued, saying she is “all about having vigorous debate,” but that “at the end of the day it means nothing if we don’t have a Congress that will get things done, and we don’t have a White House that we can count on to be sane and sober and stable and productive.”

The former secretary of state’s remarks come after Republicans trounced Democrats in Virginia’s gubernatorial election in November. The election prompted many to speculate it was a harbinger of what is to come for Democrats in Congress and in state and local elections.

The moderate and far-left factions of the Democratic Party have been at odds since the beginning of the year. Establishment officials blamed progressives for losing key races in 2020. The far-left clique, including members of “The Squad,” have constantly lashed out at the moderates for not going full Marxist on their policy proposals. The fact that socialist groups like Justice Democrats, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) at the forefront, have targeted vulnerable Democratic candidates during primary season didn’t help matters much either.

In this instance, Clinton seems to be having a broken clock moment because her assessment is spot on. There are several reasons why the Democrats will get their derrieres handed to them in the upcoming midterms. But one of the most significant is the progressive wing, which has caused far more harm than good so far. Their insistence on pushing for defunding police departments nationwide has had devastating consequences for those who have suffered because of skyrocketing crime rates.

Even worse, their disjointed defense of Critical Race Theory (CRT) in the classroom didn’t do them any favors either. When parents saw the material progressives have been injecting into the curriculum, progressives responded by simultaneously pretending CRT concepts weren’t being used in public school and also defending the idea that CRT concepts should be used in public schools.

The list goes on and on.

The crux of the matter is that progressive policies aren’t as popular as they would have you believe. The fact that there are not enough socialist politicians in Congress means they lack the influence necessary to push the country leftward. Indeed, despite claiming to champion the cause of black and brown Americans, they have had much difficulty even winning over these groups. For now, it is safe to say that progressives are all hat and no cattle whose bark is worse than their bite. But the question is: How much longer will this be the case?
