Democrats Make the Absolute Dumbest Claim About ‘Defund the Police’

Democrats continue to outdo themselves. They have become so desperate to gain some ground that they have resorted to pretending their stupid ideas are actually being championed by conservatives. It appears that after finally figuring out that the “Defund the Police” nonsense isn’t quite as popular as they believed it would be, the left seems to be trying out a new strategy: Pretending that it’s really Republicans who are slashing police budgets.

You can’t make this stuff up, folks.

Ever since the murder of George Floyd elicited widespread outrage, the hard left has been using his death to pressure major cities across the country to cut police budgets, resulting in fewer police officers on the streets. Now, amid skyrocketing rates of homicide and other crimes, Democrats are beginning to feel the heat from this predictably stupid decision. Leftist politicians, along with their close friends and allies in the activist media, are desperately trying to do damage control.

Democratic politicians like Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and even President Joe Biden have attempted to deflect on the issue, claiming the rise in crime is due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lack of tighter gun control laws. However, their protestations are falling short. While defunding the police is not the only factor accounting for increased crime, it certainly plays a key role.

The Daily Caller noted:

Members of the progressive squad, such as Reps Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ihan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman have repeatedly either called for defunding the police or re-allocating their budgets elsewhere. “Defunding police means defunding police,” Ocasio-Cortez said in July after New York City voted to cut $1 billion from the budget of the NYPD.

In response to these calls for defunding police, and the less than stellar public reaction, moderate Democrats attempted to distance themselves from the movement or have avoided directly addressing it.

During a Sunday appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” host Chris Wallace confronted Rep. Jim Banks (R-OH), asking him: “Can’t you make the argument that it’s you and the Republicans who are defunding the police?”

Wallace was merely being a dutiful tool of the Democratic Party, which has taken to using this line of attack. They are claiming Republicans are defunding the police because they oppose President Biden’s out-of-this-world $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill which contained $350 billion in funds for state and local governments to boost their budgets. Much of this funding was used for law enforcement agencies.

The bill, which was passed and signed into law, was opposed by Republicans because of the overwhelming amount of provisions that had nothing to do with the pandemic or subsequent lockdown orders. Both White House senior adviser Cedric Richmond and press secretary Jen Psaki repeated the absurd canard on the Sunday morning news circuit. Other Democratic officials embarrassed themselves when they took to Twitter to make the same argument.

Gas meet light.

I’ll put this simply. Whoever came up with this messaging strategy should be fired immediately and completely blackballed from ever working in D.C. again. If I were a conservative infiltrating the Democratic Party, this is exactly the tactic I would suggest to the movers and shakers while trying hard to conceal my giggling.

There is absolutely no way that this line of attack will work. The identity of the true supporters of the “Defund the Police” campaign is abundantly clear. It is the far-left Democrats who don’t care if removing police from the streets results in a crime wave that disproportionately snuffs out black lives. Everyone knows it. No level of media spin can cover for it. We can be sure that voters won’t forget about this when 2022 and 2024 roll around.
