Well, it appears that a significant number of Minnesota’s Democratic voters might have finally become fed up with Rep. Ilhan Omar. Better late than never, I suppose. There have been several reports over the past few weeks detailing the changing attitudes towards the freshman lawmaker who has repeatedly come under fire for expressing anti-Semitic sentiments on multiple occasions.

Last week, The Hill reported that Minnesota Democrats are considering supporting a candidate to challenge Omar in the primaries when she is up for re-election. Apparently, anti-Semitism might be acceptable to the leaders of the Democratic Party, but not so much to rank-and-file Democrats in her district.

A state senator told The Hill that there are rumblings among Democrats in Minnesota about removing the freshman representative. “There’s definitely some buzz going around about it, but it’s more a buzz of is anyone talking about finding someone to run against her than it is anyone saying they’re going to run against her or contemplate it,” the official said. “There’s definitely talk about people wanting someone to run against her.”

So how is Rep. Omar responding to this news? The same way any self-respecting progressive leftist would: by blaming President Trump. Last weekend, the president retweeted a news story about the lawmaker’s precarious position and Omar played the all-too-predictable victim card. “You can’t Muslim ban us from Congress!” she tweeted.

But it appears that Omar’s constituents don’t need Trump’s approval to oppose her. In an appearance on CNN, Mohamed Ahmed, a voter in the representative’s district said: “When David Duke of the Ku Klux Klan agrees with you, you’re not doing something right.”

Ouch.

But that wasn’t all. Three more of the lawmaker’s constituents agreed with those who feel that Omar’s accusations that American Jews are more loyal to Israel than the United States constituted a bigoted attack on the Jewish people. “You’re supposed to bring people together, you’re supposed to create a sense of unity instead of farther dividing them and pitting one group against the other,” another constituent said.

One of the other participants in the interview stated that they “believe in Palestinian rights and freedoms, but we will not do it denigrating our Jewish community.”

It is a bit puzzling that so many are shocked by the representative’s attitudes towards the Jewish people. Even before being elected, Omar had made a number of anti-Semitic comments and Minnesota voters seemed unaware. Moreover, it was well-known that she supports the Boycott, Divest, and Sanctions movement despite her denials during the campaign. If I didn’t know any better, I might be tempted to think the establishment media refused to bring this information to light during the campaign season.

But it is telling that a budding resistance to Omar is materializing, and it says much about the disconnect between Pelosi’s Democratic Party and everyday Democratic voters. Sure, left-leaning citizens disagree with conservatives on most issues, but they do not seem as willing to tolerate anti-Jewish bigotry as the officials in power. Will Minnesota Democrats step up to vote Omar out? We can’t be certain, but it is clear that if she wants to remain in power, she might want to take the advice of Walter White and “tread lightly.”
