Two Fateful Events Occurred on January 15 Which Changed America for Years to Come; One Glaring, the Other Quiet

On January 15, America watched as a group of prideful House Democrats, placing partisan interests above their country, walked the spurious Articles of Impeachment over to the Senate. The solemn looks on their faces belied the elation they tried hard not to show. For the next three weeks, we watched the spectacle of Adam Schiff and his team trying desperately to prove their fraudulent case against President Trump. Fortunately, they failed.

At the same time, an airplane landed at Washington State’s Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. A 35-year-old man had just returned from visiting his family in Wuhan, China. Five days later, on January 20, he would become the first person in the U.S. to test positive for the coronavirus.

To say that the federal government was distracted by the Senate’s impeachment trial of President Trump would be a gross understatement.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) spoke to conservative commentator Hugh Hewitt on his Tuesday radio show. McConnell credited Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) “for paying attention to the severity of the outbreak at a time when the Senate as a whole was occupied.” McConnell told Hewitt, “He was first, and I think Tom was right on the mark. And it came up while we were tied down on the impeachment trial. And I think it diverted the attention of the government, because everything every day was all about impeachment. But Tom figured this out early, and he was absolutely right.”

I posted about Dan Bongino’s prediction that, once the coronavirus crisis is over, House Democrats will open a two-prong investigation of President Trump’s response to the coronavirus, based on “his denial” and his administration’s delays of essential medical supplies to those on the frontlines. Bongino discussed this on Monday. The post can be viewed here.

On Tuesday, lo and behold, NBC News published an article entitled, “Informal discussions begin on 9/11-style commission on coronavirus response,” which says talks among House Democrats have already begun.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told Sean Hannity on Tuesday night that, “When the administration came down to brief the House about coronavirus, they were preoccupied with impeachment instead of protecting this country. That’s exactly the only thing they focused upon. And then you watch Nancy Pelosi, I watched her sit there and say those words,* and it was very upsetting to me as an American, not as an elected official but as an American.”

* (Note: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s viral interview with Jake Tapper in which she claims Trump’s response to the coronavirus crisis has been “deadly.”)

He also discussed how Senate Republicans and Democrats had “largely agreed on the parameters of the $2 trillion coronavirus aid package enacted last week before Pelosi “flew in” and “stopped the relief.” McCarthy said, “She restricted any relief from coming unless she could invoke her liberal wish list into reality. She talked about changing election law. She talked about Planned Parenthood. She talked about paying off pensions. This is why she held back, why millions of Americans lost their jobs.”

He reminded Hannity of a disturbing remark made by House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) on a conference call with members of the Democratic caucus about what they wanted to see in the relief bill. McCarthy said, “This is a time to change the scope and the direction of this country into their belief, to restructure it, was the actual words.”

(Note: Clyburn’s actual words were, “This is a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.”)

The Washington Post’s Henry Olsen wrote an op-ed on Tuesday entitled, “Let’s be honest. Impeachment hurt Trump’s response to coronavirus.” Olsen writes, “Democrats and most of the major media were almost entirely focused on impeachment. As a result, the White House was focused on addressing this threat to its survival, not on preparing for a threat from China that might never even materialize.”

Olsen argues that after “nearly four years of irrational Trump hatred,” Trump would be heavily criticized by the Democrats no matter what he did. He notes that “Had he acted decisively in February when he had time, many surely would have accused him of manufacturing a crisis to distract the public from impeachment. Now that we are suffering from that month’s relative inaction, he is attacked for failing to act in advance. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t.”

He reminds us of the Democrats’ fight to subpoena witnesses which would have meant the trial continuing through February.

Perhaps the most important point he makes is that “No European leader stockpiled COVID-19 tests or ordered ventilators and masks in preparation for the worst.” He concludes with the following:

The sainted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau prepared his country no better than Trump prepared the United States.

The rational analyst sees these facts and notes that it is extraordinarily difficult for politicians to foresee an event unprecedented in modern times and act accordingly. But Trump-phobia, of which impeachment was only the most obvious symptom, prevents too many from seeing the obvious even now.

Since the day President Trump was inaugurated, he has been under attack by the Democrats. He has been investigated for colluding with the Russians to win the 2016 election, obstruction of justice for getting angry over their phony investigation, violation of the emoluments clause, and he was impeached over an innocuous phone call with the Ukrainian President. None of these probes have had any merit. As one ends, the Democrats are waiting with the next one.

These investigations have preoccupied the government and the media for over three years. They have crippled his presidency and inflicted tremendous damage on America.

The U.S. is currently going through a crisis. Rather than trying to help Americans, the Democrats, led by the toxic Nancy Pelosi, first tried to use the Coronavirus Stimulus Bill to pass unrelated Green New Deal “wish list” items and now they’re planning their next investigation of the President. Many of them need to be thrown in jail for the harm they’ve caused the country.

They need to be stopped and exposed. And the American people need to understand how critical it is for Republicans to win back the House Majority.
