Fox Outperforms MSNBC, CNN For 70th Consecutive Quarter, CNN Finishes 15th

Nielsen Media Research has released cable news viewership data for the second quarter of 2019 and Fox News is looking good.

Considering all of the criticism directed at Fox News by the mainstream media, the network has managed to attract more viewers than either MSNBC or CNN for the 70th straight quarter in both the daytime and primetime (8-11 pm EST) categories.

According to Nielsen Media Research, in the primetime category, Fox dominated with an average of 2.4 million viewers, followed by MSNBC with 1.7 million. In the number three spot was TNT, and fourth and fifth place went to ESPN and HGTV, respectively.

CNN averaged only 761,000 viewers, less than 32% of Fox’ audience.

In the daytime category, Fox was in first place with an average of 1.3 million viewers. This was the 12th consecutive quarter in which Fox has achieved the number one spot. Number two was MSNBC with 900,000. HGTV, Nickelodeon and Investigation Discovery came next. CNN wound up in eighth place with 525,000, approximately 40% of Fox’ viewership.

“Hannity” remained the “most-watched” show on cable with an average of 3.2 million viewers.

Second place went to “Tucker Carlson Tonight” with 2.8 million. “Maddow” came in third with 2.5 million. (I’m surprised she had so many viewers.) Fourth and fifth place went to “The Ingraham Angle” and “The Five.”

CNN’s most watched program was “Cuomo Prime Time,” with an average of 910,000 viewers, which finished at #25. Fox reports that 14 of their network’s programs and 10 of MSNBC’s, were ahead of CNN’s #1 program.

“Hannity “also prevailed in the key demo category, averaging 505,000, which includes viewers between the ages of 25 and 54. Next was “Maddow” with 396,000. “Fox News had eight of the 10 most-watched shows in the demo, while CNN didn’t have any programs among the top ten. In fact, CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time” had its lowest-rated quarter ever in both categories.”

For over eleven years, Fox News has remained the most-watched cable network in the primetime demo.

“Fox & Friends” has been the most-watched cable news morning show for over seventeen years. And “The Greg Gutfeld Show” beat CNN and MSNBC combined in its timeslot.”

Now, what was that they were saying about Fox News?
