RedState's Water Cooler - Open Thread - August 13, 2018: A Match Made In Heaven, One Angry Democrat, And A Step Toward Tyranny

A Match Made In Heaven:

Osama Bin Laden’s son, Hamza, married Mohammed Atta’s daughter. (Atta was the ringleader of the 9/11 attacks and flew a jet into the north tower of the World Trade Center.) It is reported that Hamza hopes to avenge his father’s death.

Angry Moment of the Week:

Florida Man, A Democrat, Shoots Facebook ‘Friend’ Over Political Dispute

We all have Facebook friends who regularly post inflammatory political material. Most of the time, we choose to scroll on by items we disagree with or we may leave a comment and move on. For some, however, merely reading ideas expressed by those with opposing political views can be an excruciating exercise and  debate soon devolves into an angry exchange of insults.

Following an online political dispute, Tampa, FL resident Brian Sebring, 44, a Democrat, became so incensed that he drove to the home of Alex Stephens, 46, (“Stephens reportedly began sending Sebring ‘explicit messages and threats.'”) with an AR-15 and a Glock pistol and shot him twice. The wounds, in Stephen’s thigh and buttocks, were not life threatening.

Sebring “was arrested on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed firearm.”

Politics really does have the power to inflame!

Chilling Thought of the Week:

Imam Sulaiman Jalloh: Allah willing, America will be a Muslim nation, Islam is the solution to the world’s problems.

Jalloh’s remarks seem to support why we should not adopt Islam. He says, “Do you know why people are not implementing Islam as the solution? Find one Muslim country that has implemented Islam to solve all the problems of the Muslim country, not one can be an example of how Islam solves all of life’s problems.”

Stupidest Tweet of the Week:

How did America arrive at this point where a sitting senator can sanctify censorship and calls for more? Love Alex Jones or hate him, the banning of Infowars from Facebook, Apple, YouTube, and Spotify is an assault on our first amendment rights.

Quotes of the Week:

1.  “You’re Not Liberals, You’re Authoritarians”:  Paul Joseph Watson

Three months before the important mid-term elections, an influential, very conservative, pro-Trump voice is silenced by four major social media companies simultaneously – all of whom are major donors to Democratic lawmakers.

Within a twelve hour period last week, Facebook, Apple, YouTube and Spotify, banned Alex Jones from their sites. Love him or hate him, the simultaneous banning of Alex Jones from social media platforms is a step toward tyranny.

2.  “First they silence you, then they rule you.” **Unknown

** I cannot find the author of these words. They are similar in meaning to Edmund Burke’s famous quote, “All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.”

As always, this is an open thread!
