Prominent trial lawyer and fundraiser for the Democrats, John Morgan, is leaving the Democrats’ Party.
This is a significant setback for the struggling Florida State Democrats. According to Chuck Todd, Morgan is one of the most important Florida Democrats, in terms of finances.
Morgan is fed up with the politicians of both parties and will now be an Independent.
Morgan Tweeted his blockbuster announcement Friday.
Spent all of Thanksgiving with my whole family. While it’s amazing to be leading the polls for Governor without being a candidate I can’t muster the enthusiasm to run for the nomination.
And I can’t muster enthusiasm for any of today’s politicians. They are all the same. Both parties. I plan to register as an Independent and when I vote, vote for the lesser of two evils. And if I ever ran, run as an Independent. #ForThePeople
Morgan told Politico Florida he thinks U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson should also join the governor’s race instead of running for a fourth Senate term.
Morgan also said, while he would support some Democrat candidates, he would not raise a dime for national groups like the Democratic National Committee, which he called a “bunch of dumb ass political hacks”:
“F— no,” he said when asked if he would help national organizations. “That’s like pissing money down a rat hole. Read Donna [Brazile’s] book”
According to Politico Florida, Morgan in follow-up text messages, confirmed he was not saying he would not run for governor, “just not as a Democrat.”
