Sydney Sweeney Must Be Over the Target If OF Creators Are This Mad

Is there anything Sydney Sweeney can't do?

Anger has, once again, resurfaced around the bombshell actress thanks to her latest storyline on "Euphoria," a show she co-stars in with Zendaya. In this season, Sweeney's character, Cassie, has taken up being a porn content creator in the line of OnlyFans creators in real life. The character is meant to show a woman who, through this content, highlights her emotional vulnerability and misguided pursuit of validation.

In one scene, Cassie's fiancé, Nate, gets into an argument with her about what she's doing, which Cassie defends as growing a "following" and making lots of money from it.

Her storyline is, for the most part, a raw take on OnlyFans creators, and, as it turns out, these creators don't like how Sweeney and the show portray them.

The woman who is arguably OF's most famous creator, Sophie Rain, interviewed with TMZ to voice her displeasure about how porn creators are being framed through the character of Cassie.

Rain attempted to call this "overdramatized," and that OF creation is actually a lot less demeaning than that. The most hilarious part of this interview is when she said that she doesn't like the portrayal because "young girls watch this show" and it would give them a bad idea about what OF creators do.

First off...

Secondly, there's very little for Rain, or any OF creator, to defend here, and the idea of trying to pass it off as more of a noble profession that doesn't involve demeaning oneself to do it is absolutely laughable.

This is a profession that calls for its creators to whittle their existence down to being sexually gratifying for an audience who does not, and cannot, see them as a person. It involves developing parasocial relationships where lying and dehumanizing are some of the primary tools to foster a false connection that keeps subscribers hooked.

Rain, and other OF creators are in the business of making strangers aroused and dependent on them for a sort of detached sexual gratification, and for money to boot.  There is nothing noble about what's going on here. It's all slime.

I think what we're seeing here is a "she doth protest too much" moment where Sweeney's character actually highlighted an insecurity many OF creators have. It's a truth they know deep down and continue to shove away. This isn't just about money; it's about being validated in a world where trying to find your 15 minutes and dragging it out as long as possible is considered a life goal.

Women are told to be strong and independent, and OnlyFans content creation is currently being sold as one of those avenues for women to do so. Rain dropping her worry that young women who watch Euphoria might get a negative view of the porn industry shows you that her money and success have blinded her to the reality that many women who do OF and don't have her level of success have faced.

Moreover, Rain is still young. She's in that spot where she bought the lie young. But her primary asset will start to depreciate, and like every person before her, she'll watch as her success dwindles while her prospects of having a healthy marriage and stable family wither to nothing, which is a problem her success has already put before her, though she doesn't know that yet.

These platforms are the kind that encourage creators to always go above and beyond to maintain and grow their audience. The dehumanization is always meant to go further and further. Many former OF creators who quit the platform note that they had to stop for their own mental health because the messages they'd receive and the lengths they'd go to to please an audience that is never satisfied long made them hate themselves to the point of wanting to commit suicide.

Again, there is nothing noble about porn creation. Sweeney's character is probably doing more to help our society by demonstrating how demeaning and desperate it is, and if OF creators are actually that angry about it, then she must be over the target.
