I'm not going to lie. When I wrote in November of last year that the best thing we can do for New York to protect it from socialism was to let Zohran Mamdani happen and let the lesson set in for New Yorkers on a personal level, I thought it would take at least a little bit of time before the lesson really started to set in.

As I wrote then:
I can't help but wonder if the Republicans' best move is to look at New York and, with a lazy applause and a thumbs up, say, "You'll do great, kid."
It'll hurt. It'll be destructive. Our nation will probably suffer for it since New York is one of the financial centers of our country, but if one thing has been proven true time and again, it is that sometimes to get the best results, you have to let the pendulum swing. Sometimes, the harder it's swung, the better the result becomes.
I thought it'd take at least a year for New York to truly feel the pain, but all it took was some snow and feces to really start the collapse.
Only a few months later, Mamdani's New York is already falling apart. I'm not sure if this is a record. The failures of socialism and communism are numerous throughout history, and I don't have the time to examine them all. However, causing New York to fall into a state of regression this quickly has to be some sort of record.
If you go through the "New York" tag on RedState, start from the article of mine I linked above and continue upward, reading each title as you go, and you'll see the collapse play out in front of you in quick snapshots. Bad appointees who call homeownership "white supremacy," raising taxes on the "rich" to unreasonable levels, holding gifted children back in the name of equality, homeless people literally freezing to death because he refuses to move them inside, housing issues, and the issue with public services helping New Yorkers navigate their own city becoming so bad that he had to recruit volunteers from the populace, and required them to bring two forms of ID to help.
After the snow stopped, garbage wasn't collected for some time, and it piled up, creating a massive stink.
BREAKING - NYC residents are furious and demanding answers as garbage and filthy snow continue to pile up on the streets a full week after a snowstorm, with many wondering how it could possibly still look like this. pic.twitter.com/mOiBYvrbBC

When the snow finally melted off the streets, it revealed a mass of what people hope is dog poop on the sidewalks everywhere.
🚨 NYC just went full 💩 apocalypse. Snow melted, revealed streets buried in dog poop for weeks. Residents: “Never seen sh*t like this!”Thanks, Mayor Mamdani! 💀 #RIP #NYC pic.twitter.com/1p5hY48n4P

The warmth of collectivism truly is a marvel to behold.
As terrible as all of this is, I want to buckle down and say that this is the best thing for New York, and possibly, America. It might be one of the biggest "I Toldjah So's" in the history of America, and what's great is that the lesson isn't done yet. The medicine hasn't fully coursed its way through the body. It's only going to get far worse from here, and I hope it does.
I don't say this out of malice. I truly don't want bad things to befall people, but sometimes the only way to learn that fire burns is to get too close to it. It's not pretty, it's definitely not comfortable, but here in the U.S., we've had it so comfortable for so long that many people believe the hype around socialism and didn't stop to think why a bunch of people are fleeing it.
Now, we have a perfect little case study to witness here on our own shores. People will suddenly find the place unlivable. High crime, high cost of living, and a high chance you'll start looking for other places to live.
I'd say it'd be a good idea to pay attention to the exodus numbers coming out of NYC over the next few months, and set the timer for a recall election now.
Things are going to get way worse before they get better, and the worse it gets, the better it is for everyone.
I'll leave you with this fantastic video from this woman mocking the Mamdani and the situation he caused, because I can't sum it up better than her.
"I love New York City so much and I think I am falling in love with Mamdani."

"We so needed a reality check in America to what Socialism would look like here."
