A Leftist Woman Wonders Aloud What Binds the Left Together - Allow Me

I came across an interesting video on X recently that almost had me confused upon my first viewing.

In this small video, a woman asks her fellow leftists what binds them together. She elaborates by pointing out that the right has several things that we can pretty much agree upon and that keep us fighting.

For the right, she lists Christianity and nationalism, which, you could say, is accurate, but that's like taking some slices of the pie and leaving the rest on the table. I won't go too far into what unites the right, but I will greatly generalize it because it puts what keeps the left united in a better context.

What keeps the right united is a patriotic love of America and its traditions, virtues, opportunities, and ethics. People who are pro-America will tell you this is the greatest country on Earth and proceed to list a myriad of reasons why, but it all amounts to values that our Western, Judeo-Christian, ghost of Rome kind of society allows.

This is pretty widely agreed upon, with some caveats and nuances, but when people on the right say "America is the greatest country ever," that's just a shorthand way of describing those values. Even members of the center-left believe the same thing about America as much of the right does, with a bit of give here and take there.

Now, what I refer to as the "modern left" or the "hard left" is united under the exact opposite banner, and the reason I like to use the term "modern" here is that, at this time, the left is reactively against whatever Donald Trump says he's for. This is a symptom of the anti-right mentality the left has had for ages now, but I feel like it has really concentrated under Trump.

At this time, the left is hyper-obsessed with anti-Americanism, meaning its values, traditions, and moral stances are all bad. Everything is problematic, racist, sexist, and homophobic, and it starts at a systemic level. A system that must be uprooted, destroyed, and remade in their image. "Their image" can differ slightly here and there, but ultimately, the system they want is socialism or communism if they can get away with it.

If Americans who support traditional anything, especially Christianity, are for something, the left is automatically against it. If it seems like something that benefits white people, then it's a symptom of systemic racism and must be destroyed. If it's a group or organization that helps maintain and stabilize this system, be it local police or ICE, then it has to be defunded or disbanded.

If it reeks of traditional beauty and fosters natural sexual dynamics between men and women, then it's evil. If it challenges the traditional ideas of beauty and sexual propriety, then it's brave and groundbreaking. Ella Hoffman dressing like a lunatic and showing off her armpit hair is considered the height of beauty, while Sydney Sweeney is considered a disgusting troll.

People Still Love Celebrities If They Let Us Love Them

If it challenges things America traditionally approves of, it's good. If it strengthens and approves of American traditions, it's bad.

Now, why was this woman confused about this fact? Why didn't she seem to understand what unites her own side, the side she's a part of and clearly believes in enough to fake gagging when she said the word "nationalism?"

It's because her side cannot just say "we're anti-American," at least on mainstream platforms or as a collective. You get the occasional college student saying it. You can hear an AWFL say something to that effect randomly, but as a collective, just declaring you're against all things American isn't exactly a winning strategy. As ridiculous and stupid as these people are, they know not to just make that their front-facing slogan.

Better to deliver platitudes about being on the side of love, peace, and inclusion as you smash windows, burn stores, and shoot people in the neck.

That way, anti-Americanism gets dressed as something more noble. After the recent Super Bowl, posts on X about how conservatives could be against the message of love on the big screen could be disagreed with, as if we didn't see through it. As I said in my article about it, it wasn't a message of love and unity but a finger wag at you. If I take that a bit deeper, it's a finger wag at what the left hates that you hold dear in American values.

This woman doesn't know because her side isn't allowed to say it out loud. If they did, then they'd lose any chance at selling their side to moderates or convincing many people to give their institutions money, or send their kids to be "educated" at their universities.

I hope this helps.
