Actor Kieran Culkin has proven himself to be a stellar actor, even when he was simply smiling at cameras as a child during Home Alone, the one time he shared the silver screen with his brother Macaulay Culkin. After years of acting in various movies and television shows, Culkin finally won an Oscar for his supporting role in Jesse Eisenberg's A Real Pain.
But what made this moment really great was the fact that when Culkin got up to give his acceptance speech, he did the usual thanking of his business partners, manager, Jesse Eisenberg, etc., but asked them not to play the music because he wanted to tell a quick story about he and his wife Jazz.
It's here that Culkin really won America over, because his story was about having children. Culkin married his wife Jazz back in 2013, and are parents to daughter Kinsey Sioux and son Wilder Wolf. He focused his speech on the family that Jazz gave him, but not only that, tells a funny story about how winning the Oscar means she's going to give him more children.
"I love you Jazz. I have to thank my wife Jazz for absolutely everything, for giving me my favorite people in the world," he said. "Please don't play the music because I want to tell a really quick story about Jazz."
"About a year ago, I was on a stage like this, and I very stupidly, publicly said that I want a third kid from her, because she said if I won the award, she would give me the kid," he continued. "It turns out she said that because she didn't think I was gonna win. People came up to her and were like really annoying her. I think it got to her."
Culkin said that as they were trying to find the car after the Emmy win, Culkin reminded her of the promise.
"'Oh, God, I did say that. I guess I owe you a third kid,'" said Culkin, remembering the moment. "And I turned to her, and I said, 'Really, I want four.'"
"And she turned to me — I swear to God, this happened. It was just over a year ago," he continued. "She said, 'I will give you four when you win an Oscar."'
Culkin said he held his hand out, and she shook it.
"Okay, then I just have this to say to you, Jazz, love of my life, ye of little faith. No pressure. I love you. I'm really sorry I did this again, and let's get cracking on those kids. What do you say?" he finished.
Kieran Culkin tells a surprisingly pro-family story at the Oscars.

Speeches are usually must-skips but not this one. pic.twitter.com/S2mMg1ENv8
Culkin could have talked about anything, but the fact that he used this moment to talk about expanding his family is refreshing. Of all the moments that happen at the Oscars, this one actually felt real and down to Earth. Especially in a world where having children is considered borderline off-putting, seeing someone at one of the most glitzy parties in Hollywood talk about wanting to have more children with his wife seems as rebellious as it is wholesome.
I hope Culkin gets to have his four children, but more than that, I hope to see more Hollywood actors come out and talk more about how much family actually means. If the industry truly wants to recover any semblance of goodwill from the American people, this is a great place to start.
