Last night was the annual Met Gala, a fundraising event for the New York Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. What it really is, however, is a chance for A-list celebrities to wear extravagantly showy garb that will often contain political messaging. This year was no exception.
The photos are, as I write this, being distributed around online and the cringe has been turned up to 11.
For instance, here’s New York Democrat Rep. Carolyn Maloney wearing a dress promoting women’s rights. You’ll notice she’s completely maskless, however, the ladies in waiting dressed in black on the side are masked up and in line.

But all the talk on political Twitter centers around the presence of none other than Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who wore a white dress with “tax the rich” emblazoned on the back in deep red. She too did not think it necessary to wear a mask despite the fact that New York school children should be forced to wear them.
.@AOC doesn’t need a mask at a packed celebrity haute couture event, but your kindergartener needs one to go to school and you need one to walk from the hostess stand to your restaurant table, even if you’re vaccinated.

Right off the bat, you’re probably thinking one thing; what a bunch of hypocrites.
You’re entirely correct. Here we see a bunch of bougie celebrities and politicians dressing like people from The Capitol would from The Hunger Games and acting like them too. Funny enough, these are the same people who are telling you that the rich should be punished for being rich, or that the patriarchy should be punished despite the fact that it’s pretty clear the patriarchy is about as real as Snidely Whiplash.
By the way, by “punished,” Cara Delevingne means via sexual act despite she herself coming from a family with very well-to-do and powerful men.
I’m pretty sure Cara Delevingne’s family is the patriarchy pic.twitter.com/FzY2f9FJQq

These celebrities, in all their glitz and glamour, suffer from living within a very bubbled lifestyle where only one kind of ideology is allowed and the rest isn’t just shunned, it’s punished if it’s expressed. Case in point, last night Nicki Minaj expressed some very common sense stances about vaccines and the choice to take them. Her tweets on the matter were greeted with the venom you’d expect from the hive mind.
This bubbled lifestyle triggers a very interesting reaction within their minds. They see their gilded surroundings, see the adoration of millions of fans, and come to a very misguided conclusion; “I’m important.”
Like the nobility of old, the important people of today feel themselves above the peasantry. The rules don’t apply to them as they’re for the unwashed masses and common people. This is why they can make rules that are for the benefit of all of us, but they completely disregard these very rules themselves, only pretending to embrace them when they think the peasantry isn’t watching.

The bottom line is this: They know they’re hypocrites…they just don’t care that you know it.
In their minds, they are above you and as such, they don’t really have to care how angry you get. Their pride, sense of fair play, and sense of humility are well protected against criticism and shame by miles of adoration and circular back-patting by fellow celebrities.
If you were ever wondering how people could do things like these people do and are so shameless about it, this is why. This is why common decency means nothing to them and why they can openly defy logic with nary a regret. To them, hypocrisy is a thing the little people shout at others to make them fall in line, but they feel themselves above such things.
This is why Ms. “tax the rich” AOC, the same person who openly slammed Tesla and chased Amazon out of New York for being an uncaring corporation, can illegally park at Whole Foods in her Musk-Mobile just a short distance away from her posh DC apartment. It’s the same reason Biden, who said mask-wearing on federal property was non-negotiable because COVID-19 is so dangerous, can constantly appear without his mask wherever he goes.
It’s good to call out the hypocrisy of these people, but don’t ever expect it to make them flinch.
