Tom Cotton's Going After Fauci - and Public Health Bureaucrats - for Ignoring Research Ban

Ever since Kentucky Senator Rand Paul grilled NIH head, Dr. Anthony Fauci, on his department granting the CCP funds to perform gain-of-function research on coronaviruses (or, in other words, genetically engineer coronaviruses) at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the entire political world has begun focusing on what could be one of the biggest scandals the world has ever seen.

If it’s true, then then it proves two things. Firstly, that the virus was engineered by the Chinese in a lab and, either through neglect or intent, released the virus into the world – which is something that even Fauci now admits could have been the case. Secondly, it proves that U.S. bureaucrats helped them do it by providing research funding.

Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton also has Fauci in his figurative crosshairs, but he’s hinting that he’s not stopping at Fauci. Cotton seems to be suspicious of the entire network of public health bureaucrats.

Appearing on Fox News with Maria Bartiromo on Sunday, Cotton pointed out that Fauci was “playing word games” about the U.S. funding coronavirus research in Wuhan, China, and spoke of a joint letter with six other Republicans to Francis Collins, Fauci’s boss, asking why they ignored direction to not give funds to the Chinese for this purpose, even by the Obama administration.

“The letter that I joined Senator Ron Johnson and a handful of other senators very specifically asks the National Institutes of Health why they were funding gain of function research in these Wuhan labs,” Cotton said. “Now, Dr. Fauci has been to Congress, and he said this absolutely did not happen. But Dr. Fauci is playing word games.”

“So, the money that the NIH gave went to an American organization, which turned around and gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to these Wuhan labs to investigate coronaviruses and, yes, to find ways to make them more contagious and more dangerous,” Cotton added. “And we asked Francis Collins, who’s Dr. Fauci’s boss, to come clean, to tell us exactly what was happening, why this research was being funded, as you point out, Maria, during a time in which the Obama administration had explicitly banned this kind of gain-of-function research, research into making some of the world’s deadliest pathogens even more dangerous.”

It’s here that Cotton doesn’t just focus on Fauci, but the entire bureaucracy he operates in.

“And I think that there could be an example here of these public health bureaucrats thinking that they know better, that they’re not going to answer to political oversight and accountability, even in the Obama administration,” he said. “And they went ahead with this research that could be very dangerous. That’s why it is imperative that the NIH come clean and tell us exactly what happened.”

Cotton brings up a point that should be considered. As he suggested, it seems the public health sector of our federal government doesn’t seem to respect the rules no matter who is in charge and feels they can do as they please in direct disobedience to officials elected by the people.

This is runaway bureaucracy at its worst, and this time it wasn’t just wrapping something in so much red tape that it could never be cut out. This time it was our taxpayer dollars being used by unelected officials to possibly help fund the creation/engineering of a virus that has destroyed the lives of millions around the world. If that’s the case, then Cotton, and indeed both Republicans and Democrats, will have a bipartisan crackdown to conduct and many heads will roll.
