Ocasio-Cortez Launches Attack on Friendly Press Due to Not Knowing How Quotes Work

Another day, another “oh, honey” moment for New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

While on the Late Show with host Stephen Colbert, she was asked whether or not she gave any “f*cks” about what the establishment Democrats think of her tactics in the House.

“Now, congresswoman, for you and other freshmen members of Congress, you’re getting a fair amount of pushback from even members of your own party saying ‘wait your turn, go slow, don’t ask for so much so fast right now, you’re new, wait your turn for everything and don’t make waves,'” said Colbert.

“I want to ask this question in a respectful manner, knowing also that you’re from Queens, so you will understand this question,” he continued. “On a scale from zero to some, how many f*cks do you give?”

Ocasio-Cortez took a moment to think about it then pretended to reach into her pocket and pull out a zero that she formed with her hand.

“I think it’s zero,” she laughed to massive applause.

Of course, it’s to be expected that such a quote would make headlines, especially from a person so watched by the media. Headlines began popping up left and right talking about how Ocasio-Cortez said she gives “zero f*cks” about her conflicts with fellow Democrats. The articles are supposed to be a look at how cool Ocasio-Cortez is, and how she’s essentially forming a party within her own party.

But Ocasio-Cortez is upset about it all because she thinks she’s being misquoted. Once again, she took to Twitter to play the victim and lash out at the publications reporting the story.

Her first target was The Hill.

“I actually didn’t say this, so while I know “brown women cursing” drives clicks, maybe you accurately quote the whole exchange instead of manipulating people into thinking I said this sentence instead of just the word “zero,” Tweeted Ocasio-Cortez throwing race into the mix for some reason.

Then it was Politico’s turn.

“In a shock to no one, politico is also running with the misattribution as well,” she tweeted. “Here’s what actually happened: I was asked a question on a late night show and answered with the word “zero.”

Next the New York Post

“And here’s the nypost not only running with the false quote, but adding an angry photo to boot,” she tweeted.  “This is how news hysteria develops out of nothing at all.”

She rounded it off with adding a dash of victimization from sexism as well, saying the articles reinforce “lazy tropes about women leaders” like being “passionate, but angry” to “attractive, but uninformed and gaffe-prone.”

What Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t seem to understand is that she hears things like this thrown around at her so much because they’re all true.

AOC doesn’t seem to know how quotes work. To give her a lesson, should she ever stoop to reading such an article from a lowly right-leaning site written by a libertarian, none of the sites above put the entire headline in quotes, just the “zero” part, which is exactly what she physically said. However, she was saying “zero” about Colbert’s previous question regarding how many “f*cks” she gave about what Democrats thought of her tactics.

So all three websites were quoting her properly, but because AOC understands punctuation as well as she does economics, she believes she’s under attack.

Ocasio-Cortez will use this as one more example of the inherent racism and sexism within our society by telling everyone that outlets actually friendly to her are misquoting her when really they did no such thing, proving she’s almost every trope she described in her last tweet.
