Sen. Gillibrand Is Ashamed of Her Former Center-Right Views, and the 98% White Constituency She Represents

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) is an odd duck who, if she works real hard at it, may replace Nancy Pelosi as queen of the crazies in the Democratic party.

And working hard at it she is. Where Pelosi has already graduated to literally calling illegal immigrants her “constituency,” and thanking them for breaking the law, Gillibrand is currently at the stage where she’s simply ashamed of her past as the white man’s politician with center-right tendencies.

According to Gillibrand’s Sunday interview on 60 Minutes, her journey to progressive enlightenment began when she spoke to victims of gun violence not long after she was appointed by those ignorant yokels outside the city.

Emily Zanotti from the Daily Wire put Gillibrand’s words and their factualities down:

“After I got appointed, I went down to Brooklyn to meet with families who had suffered from gun violence in their communities,” she told host Sharyn Alfonsi. “And you immediately experience the feeling that I couldn’t have been more wrong. I only had the lens of upstate New York.”

Strangely enough, Gillibrand had actually lived in New York City — just a stone’s throw from the endemic gun violence of Brooklyn — for nearly a decade before moving up state. But it was only when her eyes were opened to the real world — and to the hold the NRA had on her voting hand — that she dropped her support for gun rights.

“I know, and that’s why I was embarrassed,” Gillibrand said. “I was wrong. What it’s about is the power of the NRA and the greed of that industry. Let’s be clear, it is not about hunters’ rights. It’s about money.”

She didn’t stop there, though. When talk turned to her former support for tougher immigration policies, Gillibrand further solidified her hard-left bonafides by making sure everyone understood that she’s in total rejection of those white people who had previously supported her.

“I came from a district that was 98% white. We have immigrants, but not a lot of immigrants,” she said. “I hadn’t really spent the time to hear those kind of stories about what’s it like to worry that your dad could be taken away at any moment.”

“It was something that I’m embarrassed about and I’m ashamed of,” she added.

The kicker here is that Gillibrand’s voting base is still pretty blue, and she just called all the people she relied on to keep her in office ignorant, and potentially racist. Furthermore, she posted a video on Twitter earlier today saying that she would no longer accept corporate PAC money.

Gillibrand doesn’t strike me as the kind of person who would just remove a huge potential source of money from her campaign without having something else to replace it, but she did just insult her voting base, so maybe she isn’t all that intelligent. Point is, she’s gearing up for a run in 2020, and I don’t see how she’s clearing a good path to victory.
