Rumors are Floating Around About a Michelle Obama Senatorial Run

All things considered, I can completely believe that the rumors mentioned in the title could be true. For a first lady of an outgoing President making a speech at the DNC, they sure are making a lot of efforts to market her.

For one, her DNC speech was fawned over, not just by the media, but by the DNC itself. Joe Biden took some time out of his speech – saving the best for last – to talk about Michelle specifically while commending Obama on his run as POTUS.

The DNC itself began printing up bumper stickers that you could get with a $10 donation with Michelle’s visage on it and a quote that looked like something out of a campaign. “When they go low, we go high.”

Also, just in time for the end of Obama’s presidency is this fun movie coming out about a young, professional and intelligent, but warm Michelle and her relationship with Barack as the main subject.

This all seems like less of a celebration of Michelle Obama, and more of a promotion. Still, this is all speculation. In fact, Michelle, her husband, and her staff has flat out stated that she would not run for political office.

From the Daily Wire:

In June, 2014, she told ABC’s Robin Roberts of her future career, “It will not be political …  It definitely will not be. It will be mission-based, service-focused.”

Politico reported in October 2014 that Michelle Obama’s former communications director, Kristina Schake, said, “She is as likely to put her name in contention to be the next pope as she is to run for political office.” Anita Dunn, a former White House communications director, said, “The first lady will be active but not in the United States Senate!” And Barack Obama echoed, “One thing I can promise you is that Michelle will not run for office.”

But what the Obamas are telling us, and what the DNC are doing don’t seem to align. It could be that the DNC was trying to make a quick buck off of Michelle’s speech with the bumper stickers, and that the film is just a puff piece to commemorate Hollywood’s favorite President of all time. It could just be that leftists all across the U.S. who clamor for Michelle to run for office are being lead by the nose so that the Democrats could make a quick buck.

Or it could be that Michelle Obama is being positioned, and she’s keeping her cards close to her chest for now. As the Daily Wire also notes, it’s important to remember how Hillary Clinton did the exact same thing.

In 1996, when asked if she would run for office, Clinton responded “Not in this lifetime.” Now she’s likely to be our next president after being a New York senator, and being appointed Secretary of State.

Clues point to the DNC using the play they created for Hillary on Michelle.
