It was another week that was choked with news items, and the press was hacking up garbage reporting in the process. The government shutdown was an issue that they needed to completely recalibrate on behalf of the Democrats. Worse still was trying to explain how the prosecutor who charged Trump with loan fraud should not face an indictment…for loan fraud.
There was also the desperate effort to avoid or spin the horrid messages from Virginia attorney general candidate Jay Jones, and many in the press were bothered that Bari Weiss was brought in to revamp the journalism standards at CBS News. And then came the dire news for the press: President Trump brokered a peace deal between Israel and Hamas.
It is time to tug on the hip waders and begin the slog through the past week of reporting, and see which outlet distinguished itself on this flawed media landscape.
THE CONTENDERS
CBS News – The elevation of Bari Weiss as Editor in Chief of the news division bothered many – because she insisted the network follow basic journalism standards. The disgraced Dan Rather called the Weiss hiring “a dark day” for the network. We were delivered the priceless report that people with asthma were killing the planet by using inhalers. In similar fashion, they also told us that the government shutdown was going to deliver dire effects… for endangered ferrets.
Associated Press – The news syndicate pumped up Trump’s targeting of New York AG Letitia James, while downplaying the reality that she was seen as complicit by a grand jury. The outlet was on board with slamming Bari Weiss as “polarizing” while she was taking the reins at CBS News. On the subject of Jay Jones and his call to send bullets into the head of a GOP opponent, the AP tried to minimize it as a case of “old tweets” and waved it away with the classic “Republicans pounce” dismissal.
Here is a look at how the @AP is attempting to bury the Jay Jones "bullets to the head" text messages.

They first hold up this exchange as old news ("2022 texts"), then strive to dismiss it as merely a story that "Trump's GOP seizes on".

New York Times – In an editorial, the paper worried that Hamas would lose all of its leverage by releasing the hostages. When it was announced that the Pentagon was altering press standards, the Times boldly came out to declare it would not sign the letter, as if this would make Hegseth and company buckle. In defense of the rioters in Portland, knucklehead columnist Nick Kristoff made a clownish video “proving” there is no violence taking place in the city.
ABC News – George Stephanopoulos was peacocking with JD Vance over the unproven Tom Homan bribery scandal, insisting that Vance repeatedly answering his challenge was Vance avoiding the question, and then cut off the interview. In a claim that no illegal aliens receive Medicaid, the outlet showed that they do, and qualified their own study as incomplete. After it was seen that President Trump had brokered the peace deal, the network saw a need to announce the anniversary of Barack Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
THE WINNER
MSNBC
More than simple ineptitude, we saw repeated examples of this network delivering slanted, twisted, manipulated details that were contradicted by facts.
Chris Hayes looked at the peace agreement reached with Israel and Hamas, and he tried to massage that into being Joe Biden’s peace deal.
With similar desperation, Symone Sanders-Townsend attempted to claim the peace deal was reached because of European countries, not Trump.
Nicolle Wallace disgraced herself by alleging directly that the house fire that engulfed the home of a North Carolina judge who ruled against Trump was a case of arson by a MAGA individual. Authorities quickly ruled there was no foul play involved in the fire.
Wallace and Al Sharpton deflected away from the facts regarding the Letitia James indictment.
Ken Dilanian was back promoting his news report that makes unproven claims about Tom Homan and a bribe taking place.
Dilanian also tried to spin the news about several Senate Republicans having their phone records obtained by Jack Smith. He tries to dismiss the story, saying they were not “spied” on, but Smith had completely hidden this portion of his investigation, and it was only recently uncovered by FBI Director Kash Patel.
The network began its official divorce from NBC News as the channel was among others spun off from the parent company. It now needs to become completely independent in its operations by the end of the month.
