Marble Halls & Silver Screens Podcast ep. 55 -- The SOTU Brute’ Edition

Covering the connection of DC politics and Hollywood entertainment as they contribute to our culture.

President Trump gave his third State Of The Union speech and it was full of mystery and…just kidding. It had all the expected earmarks; the “Look how great I’m doing” passages, the “Look at all the great things we should do” prolix, and applause lines about every 30 seconds — unless you were sitting with your arms crossed in petulant fashion.

Beyond that we had Hollywood news, US politicians blaming the US, a Presidential candidate starting her campaign like Wile E. Coyote, a documentary review (don’t be scared, it’s actually good) and we had CBS discovering the South (so brave)

THIS WEEK’S THEME: “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary

  • President Trump did not exactly break new ground, nor was he expected to with his SOTU speech. Standing up for babies in the womb, and standing up against socialism was worth it, if only to see the sour faces it caused on the dems.
  • Stacey Abrams gave the traditional opposition rebuttal because…she is a losing candidate who is not in office? The bigger question is did they film her in front of a fake audience???
  • Also, the Democrat women all dressed in white for the SOTU. We do an investigation to find out ‘why’? (HINT: They are not really sure)
  • We discussed the tendency of Democrat politicians to see a problem and blame our nation. Unless there is a problem, and the problem is we have not addressed it.
  • Planned Parenthood is working in conjunction with The Sundance Film Festival to begin worming its messaging into the scripts of major TV productions.
  • In preparation for the Super Bowl CBS sent one of its brave reporters out to the south to explore the alien features and language of…Waffle House!
  • Kamala Harris announced her bid for Presidency. In 12 hours she managed to make THREE different positions on her health care plans, turning her good rating into a fiasco.
  • Brad gave a film review of a remarkable documentary made by Peter Jackson about World War 1. It is very recommended.
