Hoo Boy: Chelsea Clinton Jumps Into the White House Ballroom Debate, and She Really Shouldn't Have

An underrated quality in life is knowing when to stay out of a debate. I won't claim to have always been perfect in that area, but hoo boy, did Chelsea Clinton fail the test on Thursday.

If you've been following the news, you're likely aware of the ongoing meltdown over President Donald Trump using private donations to remodel the East Wing into a ballroom. Since pictures of the construction went viral, nearly every Democrat politician and those adjacent to them have chimed in to claim it's symbolic of the destruction of our democracy. To call it mind-numbingly pretentious would be an understatement.

But while the protestations from Elizabeth Warren, Chuck Schumer, and Jim Acosta have been ridiculous, if you lived in the White House during the Clinton administration, the best time to comment on this story would be never. Of course, restraint isn't something the Clintons are known for.

Yeah, I'm going to doubt that a child was thinking in such lofty terms about her bedroom being "The People's House." But that aside, if there was one family in presidential history who should sit all the way down about how the White House was treated, it's the Clintons.

The most obvious example of desecration came from Chelsea's father, then-President Bill Clinton, who decided to use the Oval Office for less than moral acts involving an intern and a cigar. The Monica Lewinsky affair would go on to be one of the most remembered scandals in presidential history. But to be sure, the disrespect of "The People's House" under the Clintons went far beyond that.

During that time, the Lincoln Bedroom was used as a personal fundraising apparatus, with overnight stays being given out to big Democrat donors as a reward. The Clintons also stole furniture and other household items, having claimed them as "gifts" before leaving the White House. It took a mountain of pressure in the following year for them to eventually return the items. Then there was the stealing of the "W" keys off the keyboards after then-President-Elect George W. Bush won the 2000 election.

The idea that the Clintons showed deep and abiding deference to "The People's House" is laughable. Besides, what does that have to do with Trump building a ballroom onto the East Wing, which isn't even a historical part of the grounds? How is that a scandal? Yet, during Thursday's White House press briefing, one-third of the questions from the press were about the ballroom.

Everything is so stupid, which I suppose is an evergreen comment regarding American politics.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
