Things just got real for Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan. On Tuesday, a federal grand jury handed down an indictment on two separate counts after Dugan allegedly harbored an illegal alien and then helped him escape an ICE arrest warrant. 

As RedState reported, ICE showed up to apprehend Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, and out of courtesy, was waiting for whatever legal proceedings were happening in Dugan's court to conclude. But when the judge found out immigration authorities were waiting, she misdirected them by telling them to wait in the chief justice's office. Dugan then ushered Flores-Ruiz out a side door, allowing him to run off. Worse, the illegal immigrant was in court concerning domestic violence accusations, and his alleged victims were left hanging.

ICE would eventually chase down Flores-Ruiz and take him into custody. That's when an investigation was announced into Dugan's actions, and a day later, she was arrested in a very public manner. Now, she's set to face the music.

In the immediate aftermath of her arrest, Democrats tried to claim that Dugan was being politically persecuted, with Rep. Ro Khanna (CA) hilariously asserting that "In America, you cannot arrest your political opponents." Some even claimed it was an act of "fascism" by the Trump administration. I mean, I'm no expert, but the party that arrested and tried to throw the Republican candidate for president in jail during the 2024 campaign might want to avoid that topic.

Dugan being held accountable will hopefully discourage other judges from acting similarly. It is not the judicial branch's job to thwart the chosen policies of the executive branch. ICE has the authority to arrest illegal immigrants, and if a judge chooses to get between them and enforcing the law, they should be treated just like any other citizen.

If no one is above the law, then no one should be above the law. That includes Rep. LaMonica McIvers, who was filmed throwing punches at ICE agents and illegally trespassing on Friday. She and her cohorts, including Newark Mayor Ras Baraka (who has already been arrested), must face the full weight of the law as well. Democrats must be made to live by the standards they created, and the longer things drag on, the harder it will be to bring these people to justice. But for Dugan, her time has come, and it's a good start.
