On Monday evening, Tucker Carlson released the initial round of January 6th videos that he was given access to by Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy. What they contained immediately cast doubt on the entire Democrat-led January 6th committee.
RedState reported on those revelations (click here and here), which included the fact that deceased USCP officer Brian Sicknick was completely fine and unharmed an hour after he was allegedly beaten to death by protesters.
So how is the compliant press that fluffed the January 6th committee for years handling the news? As expected, they are either attempting to downplay it or are outright lying about it. CNN’s Oliver Darcy, who used to play sidekick to Brian Stelter, wailed and gnashed his teeth, claiming that Carlson is trying to “rewrite history.”
CNN's @oliverdarcy, last seen claiming the #TwitterFiles don't show govt trying to suppress the Hunter Biden story: @SpeakerMcCarthy "helped @TuckerCarlson try to rewrite history [of 1/6] by giving this surveillance footage, footage he denied to actual news organizations." pic.twitter.com/dfOsfDO153

Here’s the thing about having unaltered video footage. It can’t “rewrite history” unless prior the history in question was false. The January 6th committee make an active decision to deceptively edit videos, misconstrue events, and omit key details that would have painted matters in a totally different light. They are not the arbiters of what “history” is, and neither are any mainstream press outlets.
What I love the most about Darcy’s complaint is the idea that all of this video should have been given to outlets like CNN. Why would McCarthy do that knowing that the narrative has already been written? If CNN or any other news organization wanted this footage, they could have lobbied Nancy Pelosi for it when she was in charge. They didn’t because they didn’t want to find out the truth. Why? Because the truth was inconvenient.
This silly about-face where the press pretends they care about transparency is laughable. They were more than content to sit by and let Liz Cheney and friends feed them talking points. There was no pursuit of the truth going on, and there’s none going on now.
Case in point? Here’s how NBC News reacted to the videos released by Carlson.
Tucker Carlson, with newly released video provided to him by Speaker McCarthy, falsely portrays the Jan. 6 riot as a peaceful gathering. https://t.co/7S6e5U2273

If NBC News were trying to provide justification for McCarthy not handing out access to the tapes to the mainstream media, what would they be doing differently?
Carlson did not “falsely portray” anything. The videos speak for themselves, and in the case of Carlson’s reporting on them, he never suggested there weren’t some violent elements on January 6th. That is irrelevant, though, when discussing the false narrative that it was a pre-planned “insurrection.” Just because some people got violent (and not unprovoked in many cases) does not mean everything else doesn’t matter.
The January 6th committee lied, and the press lied, mostly willingly, in the process. Brian Sicknick was not beaten by Trump supporters. Josh Hawley was not sprinting out of the Capitol because he was a coward. Ray Epps was not an innocent bystander.
Who knows what other things we’ll find out as Carlson continues his releases. CNN and the rest have no credibility left. They can shout into the void and continue to try to mislead the public, but the truth is now out there. It can no longer be covered up.
