Lesley Stahl's Behavior in That Trump 60 Minutes Interview Got Even Dumber

60 Minutes is really, really mad. As Kira Davis and Nick Arama both covered yesterday, Trump preemptively released the interview to counter the selective editing and narrative pushing Lesley Stahl, the interviewer, and company were looking to do. Initially, anonymous claims were made to major networks that Trump had “stormed out.” The President’s video shows that was false.

Then you got idiocy like this, where Stahl insists that the Hunter Biden emails shouldn’t be reported on because they “can’t be verified.” Ignoring the fact that the media report on all manner of unverified gossip when it’s anti-Trump, Stahl’s excuse is also nonsensical, as the emails have been verified in multiple ways.

That’s just one example of how the media constantly lie and misconstrue things. But apparently, things got even dumber after Trump ended the interview. Stahl then sat down to lecture Mike Pence.

Excerpts per The Hill.

“Mr. Vice President, this was not a rally. This was not just a campaign speech to the public. This was supposed to be an interview,” Stahl told Pence in the interview, which was posted to Facebook in full by President Trump.

“And the same with the president. And I feel that you both have insulted ’60 Minutes’ by not answering our questions and by giving set campaign speeches that we’ve heard both of you give at rallies without answering our questions,” she added.

How entitled and whiney are these people? Trump actually did answer a lot of her questions, though he didn’t pretend to accept her combative, false-premise-laden style as anything other than what it was. He pushed back because she deserved to be pushed back on. I’d also love to see her say something like this to Joe Biden, who won’t answer a single question about anything of consequence, and that’s to the extent the media will even ask him. This idea that politicians are supposed to be subservient robots for journalists certainly bears no resemblance to reality.

Regardless, the idea that Barack Obama wasn’t staying on a message he wanted when he went into interviews is ludicrous. I never once remember 60 Minutes getting upset when the former president would go on 10-15 minute long tirades disguised as answers in order to simply filibuster the interviewer. But Stahl is very, very offended that Trump didn’t want to play her game.

Pence responded in his typical stern, yet respectful fashion.

“Why did he walk out and end the interview like that?” Stahl asked. “You walked out with him, right?”

“Lesley, you spent the better part of an hour with the president, and the American people heard the passion that he has for this country,” Pence said. “His determination to bring the country all the way back and then some.”

And here, you can enjoy it in meme form.

The move by Trump to release the full video of all this was absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately, no other network will probably let it happen again, but still, taking down 60 Minutes in this manner was worth it.
